Saying trans people threaten the concept of sexual orientation is like saying mashed potatoes threaten the concept of dinner

Some personal news: the Department of Homeland Security has given me, an immigration lawyer born in Newton, Massachusetts, seven days to leave the U.S. Does anyone know if you can get Italian citizenship through great-grandparents?

Reminder: We are not at war with Venezuela. The people deported are not enemies. The law in question should not apply. Among the most dangerous aspects of the SCOTUS ruling is the idea that the president and his people have the right to arbitrarily determine who our enemies are.

This is really unfair to everyone who just voted for him for the racism.

if we want to rebuild american institutions and earn back the world’s trust after this we cannot settle for half-measures. lots of people need to go prison. lots more need to be permanently stripped of wealth and power.

I wondered for a while why Trump was so excited by Brexit, even to the point of getting Farage to fluff him. It was simple, really: proof that, with the support of enough bent media, bad people selling bigotry & lies really could persuade people to vote to punch themselves in the face forever.

Every so often, it just comes back to me in full force. The political and economic order that allowed this man to come to power is obviously no longer tenable. The leaders who let it happen obviously have to be replaced. This is an epoch defining failure and we have to turn the page completely.

Pretty simple rule of thumb when wondering why the Trump administration does anything is to ask two questions:

1) is it racist?

Or

2) are they stupid?

Tends to cover most Trump administration stuff.

Yes, the stock market may be tanking and our national security apparatus has never been more vulnerable and we're on the verge of both economic collapse and war, but it was all worth it to keep pronouns out of email signatures.

β€œEvery record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”

George Orwell

A haunting black-and-white photograph showing a massive pile of worn, old shoes. The image is dark and somber, emphasizing the sheer volume and uniformity of the footwear. These shoes symbolize the countless lives lost, likely from victims of the Holocaust. The lighting casts shadows, enhancing the emotional weight and solemnity of the scene.

Trump’s changes to Social Security will slash 7,000 jobs, shut down offices, and make folks jump through hoops to get what they’ve already earned. Seniors, disabled people, and rural communitiesβ€”y’all are the target. This is not efficiency, it’s straight-up cruelty.

Trans people, as a class, are not hurting anybody.

Republicans, as a class, have a long list of people they intend to hurt β€” and it’s a matter of time before your name or the name of someone you care about winds up on it.

Two moose kissing. A field of fall willow and a pine forest behind.

There's something needs to be said:
You don't need to be gay to stick up for your gay friends
Or trans to stick up for your trans friends
Or Jewish or Muslim or Hindu or black or white
You only need to be good people
To stick up for your friends

One Love

A few years ago I visited the National Museum of African American History & Culture with my grandparents. When we stepped out of the building my grandmother kept repeating the words β€œI lived it. I lived it. I lived it.”

She’s still here. That history is still in her bones. You can never erase that.

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

Haha. Then there's people like me who feel safe with numbers, so opening that envelope would be intriguing. On the other side, I'd dread having to write even one sentence using my imagination (what imagination?!?) or having to do something creative (how?!?). Writing a book? Unimaginable.
