He has an intense dislike of physical therapists to this day.

He had multiple surgeries and physical therapy was very painful. The knee healed in a way that fused parts of the joint and the physical therapist had to do controlled breaks to allow him to bend his knee. This was incredibly painful.

Ouch!! My brother-in-law had a similar accident when he was in high school. He and a friend were at a rec center that had a trampoline with dividers that allowed multiple people to jump on the same trampoline together. He got a really high jump and landed with no give. His knee twisted 90°.
