Does this all seem chaotic? Chaos is part of their Project 2025. Chaos creates fear. What will you and I do when our family member is taken? When the masked men ziptie our loved one in an unmarked van, will we politely ask them to follow due process? Will we send a strongly worded letter? (7/7)

But in any given town, hotel employees can find themselves kidnapped and thrown in a CoreCivic™ prison camp. No right to a lawyer. Or even worse - extraordinary rendition to an even larger prison, in a country they’ve never visited. (6/7)

Even employees who have a visa or green card stay home. It just isn’t worth the risk; Multiple DHS agents have ignored or discarded immigration documents, presumably so they can make their arrest quota. Trump is not doing mass detention at schools, hospitals, and churches yet. (5/7)

I guess he’s trying to scare immigrants into skipping court? Missing court is not a misdemeanor, but may be close enough that Trump can pretend these are the “criminals” he promised to deport. Following high-profile raids, some Brownsville restaurants stay closed. Employees stopped showing up. (4/7)

(California is where 800,000 farmworkers grow 1/3 of our vegetables and 3/4 of our fruits, at least for now). In San Antonio and other cities, masked agents are staking out immigration courthouses so they can deport the immigrants and refugees *who actually show up at court.* (3/7)

ICE is randomly raiding food trucks in New York and Home Depot in Los Angeles. HSI (Homeland Security Investigations) is arresting flea market vendors in Texas. Border Patrol is demanding documents from the people picking blueberries for us in California. (2/7)

Under Trump, DHS is not targeting terrorists or cartel members. DHS is targeting regular people, including legal immigrants & US citizens. Republicans like to say “workers should come here legally.” But Trump terminated the status of 530,000 people who came legally. Now he can deport them. (1/7)

Do first graders need to carry passports to school? Will that stop DHS from kidnapping them?

BREAKING: Federal agents in plain clothes and unmarked cars tried to snatch 1st graders from LA elementary schools—told staff they had “parental consent.”

They lied. When pressed, they HID THEIR IDS. DHS admits they sent them. This wasn’t a welfare check. It was a test run for a police state.

Sotomayor is right. According to this Supreme Court, the US can now kidnap, detain, and fly legal immigrants and citizens to a foreign country's prison, even if it's a whoopsie.

America, people. Freedom and stuff.

Insurance towed it direct to salvage yard, “expedited as a probable total loss.” I feel embarrassed, because I fight climate change on behalf of *other* people. Thought there’d be 5 or 10 more years before it would cause major disruptions to me personally. How naive. Sigh.

Last sunset for my Kia PHEV, casualty of the RGV flood. Nobody thought it was possible for Harlingen to see 22 inches of rain. 3-year-old car, 65k miles, got over 300mpg in city driving and 50mpg on road trips. Never had any mechanical or electrical problem. Body and interior in near-mint condition.

Columbia Student Hunted by ICE Sues to Prevent Deportation Yunseo Chung, a legal permanent resident who has lived in the U.S. since she was 7, participated in pro-Palestinian demonstrations. Immigration agents visited residences looking for her.

Yunseo Chung is:

– a legal permanent resident
– a high school valedictorian
– a Columbia student who merely participated in pro-Palestinian demonstrations

And ICE wants to deport her. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/24/n...

Man deported under Alien Enemies Act because of soccer logo tattoo: Attorney Jerce Reyes Barrios has a hearing on April 17, his attorney said.

Some other country will torture our prisoner Mr. Barrios, despite him never being convicted or charged with a crime (not in Venezuela, or the US, or El Salvador). Meanwhile the US pretends we had nothing to do with it, and, simultaneously, that he deserved it.

Instead, Barrios was a soccer coach living in the US after fleeing Venezuela, where he had been tortured for protesting against the Maduro government. Trump enacted sanctions against that same government, partially due to their record of committing torture. Still, the result could be similar: (3/4)

This is not deportation. This is extraordinary rendition. Like when the US captured armed enemy combatants on the battlefield in Afghanistan, then sent them to a dungeon in Uzbekistan or Syria. Except now, the person being illegally transferred was not firing weapons or setting bombs. (2/4)

Barrios entered the US legally. Now he’s falsely accused (not in court, because they won’t let him appear in court) of having a gang tattoo. Aside from that, the government keeps using the word “deported” which is an obvious lie. You can’t deport someone to a place they’ve never been! (1/4)

Returning from Antarctica in 2011, I was caught in an earthquake in Christchurch and was fortunate to survive but lost all my luggage. On arrival at LAX, I was detained and interrogated by two people for an hour because they were suspicious of someone traveling without luggage. This is terrifying.

This is horrible to post, but I may as well post it. We are essentially shutting down research operations in my group, which is focused on treatments for pediatric brain cancer. I’m a well funded investigator, and there’s no choice. Science can’t function without the stability of NIH

R.I. doctor prevented from returning to US after visiting her parents in Lebanon - The Boston Globe Dr. Rasha Alawieh works at Brown Medicine and Rhode Island Hospital, and she had secured an H-1B visa, her lawyer said.

This just a day after transplant surgeon Rasha Alawieh, of Brown University, was deported despite holding a valid H-1B visa, despite a court order to block her deportation, and despite having no criminal record.
Our humanity is failing.
