May I suggest using different sized hooks while crocheting. And sewing it in place will help, too.

Very well done. The picture seems to be AI generated. So, small wonder yours looks different.
I would advise against heavy blocking. At some point the cardi will need a proper wash and it will be very hard to get the appliqués back to shape once they're attached.
