It's so painful because so many people have been fighting for so long to correct the record historically about the suffering of Indigenous people that got erased to tell that story to kids like me, but we've regressed so far that moral isn't even valued. Like, where the fuck do we go now from that?

The only thing I can remotely think links seagulls, crows, starlings, and parakeets, aside from being birds, is maybe their tendency to form large flocks in proximity to big human population centers? There's millions of invasive eurasian starlings in the US, and feral Monk parakeets in 40/50 states.

I go there on occasion still, because there's some folks whose work I love, but the experience is night and day. It's not a pleasant place over there, it's not a benefit to my day to read the majority of what goes down there.

...because it's Spanglish and we expect the grammar to meld, but I could never make it work, I do not speak enough Spanish to Spanglish, let alone it be conversational. People get murderous over Spanglish, but it's that tug and pull of language how people use it vs "the rules of how speak proper".

Yeah, it flows waaaaay better in Spanish. There's lots of literal translations that sound janky when you port them directly from Spanish to English because it's transposing a different grammatical convention. I will say, if someone was speaking Spanglish, they could probably make "U.S.-ian" work...

...and if we, the adults, don't step in and *help* that kid before it's too late, they might harm someone else, or more likely, themselves. For every Morgan Geyser, there's dozens of other transgender neurodivergent kids who learn violence from being raped and choose to turn the knife on themselves.

The only way we stop a child from becoming another Morgan Geyser is learning that when a kid acts out violence *somebody* taught them to behave this way, and that somebody is usually an adult they cannot escape from, one who was supposed to model love and healthy attachment...

...so it is CRITICAL to pay close attention to your child and the children around you to make sure they're not struggling or showing signs of duress and to get them to help if they need it. Kids don't just "act sad" or "become lonely". Abuse creates notable despondence you can spot and report.

...the first being you don't try a schizophrenic tween in adult court. The age of a child is not magically undone by their actions, and children with "unchildlike" behavior tend to've had their "innocence" violently stripped away. Second, sexual abuse in early childhood breaks a child's mind...

There is no amount of retributive justice in the whole damn world that can fix what was done to Payton Leutner, though, so while I fucking wish Morgan Geyser's parents a pleasant "burn in Hell", all we can do now is learn better and move forward, and the lessons to take away are manifold...

...and I think we're a sick, fucked up society that Morgan Geyser's parents weren't made to account for how they hurt and failed him. As a society, we're little better than them. We also failed Morgan Geyser, and that's what horrifies me most about this case. Help was possible, but it came too late.

...and I cannot fathom the utter terror that Leutner went through having her friends stab her. That's a level of trauma that'll leave lifelong mental and physical scars. I just think that someone who WASN'T the sexually abused, schizophrenic transgender tween should bear some blame, too...

None of this excuses the fact Payton Leutner almost died, however. Her pain cannot go ignored. It was serious, and it was important to treat it seriously and make sure that Geyser's rehabiliation involved helping him reconnect with reality and morality, because what he did WASN'T okay...

If you think you're somehow better than that, that you're some born saint and only a "true psychopath" or whatever would do the things Morgan Geyser did, I think you're the one who's crazy and out of touch with humanity. Human minds are fragile. They can break, especially an abused child's mind.

...or heard them whispering in my ears at night to kill or be killed, all while another kid as equally fucked in the head told me the voices and the visions were real, that I might not have run off into the woods and stabbed a friend because I didn't know what the fuck was happening to me anymore.
