The AfD lost a bunch more mayoral elections in Brandenburg, one of Germany's eastern states. In Frankfurt on the Oder, Eisenhüttenstadt and Wriezen, the AfD candidate lost. In various other cities, they didn't make it to the runoff.

As one who tries to repair everything myself, replacing the spider base on a gaming chair proved a major challenge. You have to do it midair! It’s an interference fit which took some serious weft to dislodge and then drop with its whole weight on to my velvet slippered big toe! The air was blue 😱

It’s in the Zitadel Spandau. It is the head from the Lenin statue that once presided over Karl Marx Allee. The rest, I believe, remains buried in the Köpenicker Wald.

One I saw just recently.

When I was a teenager there was a bus direct from my hometown in Germany to London - we had a British army base, and this direct bus connection was one of the benefits of that. One summer I went on that bus to go volunteer in an old people's home in Southend-on-Sea. I had just turned 18 and was... 🧵

Not anymore since the sudden move back to Berlin. I posted about the drive through Poland to Czecho over summer. I was in tears at one point!

It‘s certainly not about the car (Enyaq). WRT e-autos it’s the infrastructure without home charging that is an unusually complex nightmare. My post is about tech in general, seems much less reliable of late. The amount of dead signal spots in Berlin is astonishing.

Something that seems to be emerging in Germany with generational change is a new kind of GDR nostalgia that is no longer connected to lives experience but a kind of fan culture based on an internet curated mishmash of contextless imagery and state produced texts.

What kind of MONSTER has their phone on speaker in a crowded inter-city train.

Something I’ve noticed more this year, perhaps more so with a full electric car, is that when you really need it to work the tech always lets you down. Phone coverage, app crashing, chargers offline, wireless connectivity, saving/sending/printing that vital doc etc. just can’t be relied on.
