One is fine. I use three in the office, but I also juggle many devkits, so one or two are usually for a console. I only have one at home, and I don’t miss the content overload that comes with two monitors.

This is how I spend my paid vacations.
50% relaxing, 50% “why does this suck?”

Starting to realize I have a lot of control over my self-esteem. Basically, if I do things I don't enjoy, then everything sucks, and I suck. But if I take the time I'd normally spend doomscrolling and use it to play Donkey Kong Bananza, then everything sucks less, and we're good.

I feel really good about how the past week has gone, but I've made it 14 years without breaking my NDA, and I don't plan to break it now, so I'll shut up and wait for my copy of Donkey Kong Bananza to arrive (it arrives tomorrow)

I'm not allowed to change anything work-related for the next 48 hours, so I'll just listen to the new Nine Inch Nails song on repeat.

My favorite dumb feature we've added to Selaco has to be: Kicking around bullet casings. It adds nothing to the game other than smiles :)

This game dev thing is fun again.

Maybe one of my best days (even weeks?) after 14 years in game dev, and I'm ONLY talking about the stuff I worked on. There's still TennoCon in a couple of days.

A lot of people come into the games industry and pretty soon develop a cynical attitude that the industry is largely run by business guys who don't know a thing about video games. It's only after a few years and some seniority that you realize that those guys don't know shit about business either.

Just got my dev badge for TennoCon.
I'll never get tired of this feeling.

For someone who had plenty to complain about when it came to the game industry, I've done surprisingly little complaining lately. It's almost as if my situation has changed in ways that make life suck slightly less.

I have too much energy for someone who hasn't had any coffee. I walked into the office listening to loud music, and I already feel like I could run through a wall, but I'll work on a couple of games instead.

I don't want my chat client to give me pop-ups telling me to "earn orbs" by "completing quests." Just shut the fuck up and send the messages.

The problem isn't that generativeAI will get so good it will replace artists. It can't and never will.

The problem is that uncreative and incurious people will flood every venue with so much regurgitated slop that no artist has a chance of ever being seen or found.

I've needed a haircut for two weeks, but I'm waiting until the day before TennoCon so I can look nice for people who don't know who I am, and these are the types of difficult sacrifices I make for the game industry.

I get it. It's why I don't regret spending more $$ for early access to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4. Roadcraft looks like a game I could lose myself in, but in a good way.
