I have 8 days of work left, then I'll be on winter break for 3 weeks. It used to be 2 weeks, but I'm entering my 15th year in the game industry, and I don't plan to stop now, so I added +1 week.

I'm not even close to burning out.
I just have games to play.

I spent so many years ignoring school to play games. Now I enjoy listening to history podcasts while I work on games. (I just learned about the Battle of Drøbak Sound while working on Warframe)

Having our game's big update arrive right before my birthday is surprisingly validating. Not only that, but I've had two surgeries this year, I'm still healthy, therapy still feels useful, and I'm no longer in debt.

I might get through the week without complaining about my life.

it's basically a plastic collectible that can occasionally be used to unlock content in some games. the usefulness of the unlocked content varies, it's usually pretty light, but the Samus amiibo unlocks a radio that lets you change songs when you're riding the bike.

I can't explain why, but the "guy screaming next to a shitty apartment" bit in The Chair Company is one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time. It reminds me of my childhood.

I didn't realize until recently that the original Game Boy came out in 1989 and wasn't succeeded by the Game Boy Color until goddamn 1998. That's roughly nine years of black and white portable gaming being the de facto standard!

And I thought the 3DS lasted too long.

I get my Soulframe Founders pack tomorrow, and I’m unreasonably excited to spend more of my free time playing a game that I’ve seen at the office and occasionally helped work on for the past ??? months (I’m almost 36, time has completely lost all meaning)

I have two weeks to change my mind, but this might be the first birthday in years that I don't spend all my time thinking about the past.

I should be a complete mess in my 30s, but I'm healthy, calm, and never skip therapy. I just work on games and listen to loud music.

They make games and movies like they used to. So many of them. Same with books.
