Meet You at the Hippos Mark Bonnar returns to the Scottish new towns in which he grew up to explore the street sculpture made by artists such as his dad.

Did you see this documentary? Currently on iPlayer for the next 3 weeks or so. It is SO GOOD. I reckon you would love it. Mark Bonnar is brilliant in it. Trust me! It is about all the stuff you are into.

Checked two versions of ‘Don Quixote’ out of the library today because I want to try both and then stick with the version I like best (which in this case might be the funnier one). It started with Tolstoy, increased with Proust, now I’m a translation nerd/snob. #tolstoytogether #prousttogether

I’m reeling because somehow I never even knew they were related. How has that eluded me until now?

This is a good argument. A sort of radical optimism in the face of the alternative, which is despair.

I have just joined the Green Party because I am a total leftie stereotype, but good God, I can't live with no hope that a fairer world isn't possible. And being a realist, if I want to see change, I've got to support something rather than just despairing the entire time.

Took me a second to work out what The Manchester News Theatre was… then I recalled that there used to be cinemas that just showed the news reels… early form of rolling news channel, I suppose.

Being accountable to an international court means our Government has to answer to them if it tries to undermine your human rights. Be very suspicious of any UK politician who wants to remove that check on their powers.

Share this and speak up for your freedoms.

cameras are totally different. Without facial recognition, they don’t know who you are unless someone needs to know & works it out. I don’t trust the government, in the absence of constitutional protections to link all our personal info together, esp. with an authoritarian government on the horizon.

yes, it is similar to cauliflower au gratin. perhaps a little less refined than that! and yes, it can be eaten as a main course, perhaps more so by vegetarians, maybe.

Is cauliflower cheese not a thing in the US? Can be very nice (as a side dish, for instance as part of a roast dinner) when made well.

I’m 100% convinced the version in the book is the 1955 one. That one is still famous in the UK even now. It’s the only one people might have a copy of.
