lab grown things are going to change the world. given that there will be a fetishization of "naturalness" to rival the organic boom, we are going to need to be out front in defending the synthetic. which i do not think many people here are capable of doing

If not that, they think they will capitulate for 3-4 years, then pretend they were resisting through means opaque to us plebians when it's over.

We need to make sure collaborators face destitution.

Ok, but like, wouldn't you need *both* for the latter?

Renewable energy is a must if you don't want massive energy costs or future energy instability. We need France's nuclear grid x 100 or we'll end up like German manufacturing (very good, but increasingly crippled by bad energy infra decisions).

A lot of institutions in blue states will come out fine-ish.

Basic reasoning is that pairing massive cuts in every public service with trying to secure leverage over public services are counter-productive exercises, especially the less the service depends on fed dollars vs state dollars.

And?

You don't need to be running a campaign to be contributing to the zeitgeist, and a zeitgeist that says "well, at least I can always shit on Dems for clout cuz I'm just a smol bean UwU" is exactly what got us here. I'm under no obligation not to call it out as bullshit for your comfort.

I mean, sure, but it depends on the energy distribution.

If 50% of your energy right now is dedicated to litigating a primary 3 years away instead of relentlessly attacking our current fascist government, you are at minimum sus as hell.

Look, we’re not gonna be able to rebuild this capability in the next democratic admin, this is basically a generational problem to fix now. But, ruining the lives of the people who did this, and everybody who hung onto it to be close to power?

Revenge is very much something that we can do.

Until we pass a nationwide ban on gerrymandering (which we need), Democrats should gerrymander every state to the fullest extent. 52-0 in CA, 17-0 in IL, and so on. No more unilateral disarmament. Time to get serious about fighting back.

For non-meal prep, I've had good experiences with lemon chicken thigh over lentils, salt + pepper salmon over white rice + lentils base, and I've seen a lot of good beans+lentils recipes, but my body doesn't do beans well. Oh, and sautΓ©ed potatoes + lentil "salad" (salt, garlic, paprika, mayo)

My go-to is 1/2 cup brown rice (cooked 90 min), 1 cup lentils + 1 cup beef broth (heat brought to med and reduced to low, 30 min), 1.5 cups cottage cheese (added just before removing heat) + Thai chili powder, salt, and garlic powder, which is lunch for 2 days. (I eat 250g protein/day)

Lentils. Been doing a lot with lentils lately because of the high protein/fiber, low cost, and ease of cooking (not much more difficult than pasta).

Can be combined with all manner of meat, cheese, veggies, mostly ends up tasting like the seasoning and other ingredients, tbh.

At some point Trump will die, and with him his coalition, at which point most of the low social-trust voters the GOP is cultivating will shrug and stop voting (assuming things don't get bad enough they all start pretending they never voted for him in the first place).

I want Democrats who understand that the goal is to lay waste to Trump, his toadies, his movement, and his party, and that after you’ve done that you can turn the country over to the survivors and they can quibble over how to fund the social safety net with less-than-existential stakes

my brother if you are struggling to get laid in 2025 and you think you'd do better in a world where women are even more aggressively shamed for expressing their sexuality and also don't have access to birth control i don't know what to tell you.

And making young men be less shitheaded is primarily the work of current older and middle-aged men, though various forms of being role-models and enforcers of social norms. In short, we must be the Pub Guys, which is not always fun and is sometimes a drag, but by God we have to do it.

It's a problem in the sense that "young men do a lot of crime and do way more crime when socially ostracized," to which the solution is not some variant of "state-mandated girlfriends," but instead "figure out how to make young men be less shitheaded for many reasons, which will get them laid."

I don't know if they're betting on a thousand-year Trumpenreich or that mollifying Trump will only be temporary and then everyone will forget their cowardice, but either way, our job is to punish every elite group/institution that collaborates in perpetuity.

we've been through this before but "emotional labor" is, like, the added exhaustion a female waitress endures when she is sexualized or talked down to by customers. it's not being nice to people. you should be doing that anyway!

No, you're wrong. People take pride in their communities and generally extend that pride to other geopolitical units like states. Suppressing that pride is more unnatural than celebrating it.

People impute meaning to spiritual experiences, and also have group dynamics related thereto. Always have.

Religion/spirituality is like patriotism in that it is an incredibly normal and intractable part of the modal human experience, so if you would rather stubbornly fight against it than utilize it to achieve good things, you are some combination of a fool and unserious.

A lot of people act like there's an obvious way to run against a Vibecession like we had in 2024, but there really isn't, especially since this is the first time I can recall something like it happening.

Though now Trump is making the recession real, so that's... something.
