The thing about a personalist dictatorship (which the country may not be, but Executive definitely is) is that this can resolve to "and they declared themselves innocent" OR can resolve to "leadership lost the protection of their patron and will now be kicked out for crimes committed openly."

As a Vikings fan:
1. Darnold would not have saved this season; he would have struggled with the O-Line injury/configuration issues, as Wentz/9 did.
2. Sam Darnold seems like such a nice, young man, I'm glad he won a Super Bowl, and I'm grateful for the hell of show he put on for us last year.

It seems substantially more likely that Trump declares the election was fraudulent, but only where Dems won, has some goons (try to) arrest all the Democratic Congresspeople the day of the swearing in, but even then we're at "next step: ???" as a new civil war begins.

And, unfortunately, wherever the grifter is currently winning, we should let that dog lie until we have political power again.

The response to ICE/CBP getting toxically unpopular is to direct them to fire tear gas canisters at protests including children. They don’t have the ability to execute some secret competent plan. All they have is hitting everything and everyone with a hammer.

With a GOP House, Senate, and Presidency headed by Stephen Miller, we are never getting the "Abolish ICE" position, no matter how hard Dems fight.

This is probably the most we get under current circumstances, and will make prosecution easier in the future.

The base is Black Women (most of whom are not socialists) and there are a surprising number of people who will do anything to refuse acknowledging that.

I feel like part of the problem for the GOP is that they want a corrupt, Orban-style competitive authoritarian system, but while a competitive authoritarian electoral system is in US living memory (Jim Crow), Soviet kleptocratic corruption really isn't (you'd need to go back to the Gilded Age).

I mean, ICE won't be abolished until and unless enough Dems are elected in the House, Senate, and Presidency with the spines/resolve to abolish. Forcing the GOP to curb the worst practices to mitigate harm while Miller is functionally President with a GOP Senate/House is a win.

I haven't followed Darnold's career in the past, but given what I saw with the Vikings last year, he seems like an elite QB with some fairly significant flaws that are mitigated well by how the Seahawks structured their team.

You would need more men than ICE has to swing more than a single suburban district or suppress votes in Portland, ME, let alone both.

They might *try* but they do not have the men to stop an election when they are this unpopular. Too many holes in the ship to plug.

They don't have enough agents to do that to enough polling places to actually steal an election, before we even get to if it would work.

Also, by most accounts they are losing ground in rural areas, which is also a death sentence for their coalition that would spread them even thinner.
