Hurrah!! Thanks so much for offering the recordings for those of us who are in wildly different time zones. You just sold at least two more tickets to me and my mother on the strength of that!

I've been off the socials for a while, but wanted to pop over here to replicate an old thread from Tw*tt*r with citations supporting salary transparency in library job postings. Please feel free to share widely, and DM or email me if you need a PDF of any of these articles!

I had this situation with a vintage ring I bought. I discovered when it arrived that it had a HUGE chip in the stone, which was also very loose in the setting. Chip was sorta visible in the pic, and it was sold as β€œvintage condition,” but…still over the limit for me.

Fountain Society The humble drinking fountain can tell us much about a society’s attitudes towards health, hygiene, equity, and virtue, and about its understanding of public goods and civic responsibilities.

If you missed @shannonmattern.bsky.social’s brilliant essay β€œFountain Society,” @nytimes.com's David Brooks recommends the read & we do too! His Sidney Awards feature the best long-form essays published this year in small publications.

"For any artist who works with digital files in the twenty-first century (that’s most of us), the workβ€”in addition to making the artβ€”is making sure it sticks around.

To both archive and maintain your own work is a reminder of the gap between current practice and public markers of success. It can feel like an exercise in futility: If this work was really worth itβ€”if someone other than you believed in its valueβ€”wouldn’t you have the time and money and institutional support to do it right? "

The sun will go down. The sun will rise again. It has has gotten darker. It will get bright again. The dark has wrapped and sheltered us, but now its time is done. And if we want the light back, and not just the sun, we better build a damn big fire.

Happy solstice.

As I get older and lose more people I love, I learn how much it means to know others who knew them and can talk about them with you. It’s like having someone there to cup their hands around the flame of the candle you’re holding on a dark and windy night. πŸ’—
