Yes, because if the rest of the fantasy world thinks of Drow as evil it will affect their reactions to the character (as I said, I've not read any of the other books but I take it Drow are still in the Monster Manual?).

Drow have always been portrayed as evil and worship evil gods, but there is the option to have a rare exception, this is explained to players who wish to create a Drow character in the 2014 book, but there's no mention of it in the 2024 one, in that they are just black skinned from the Underdark.

Hopefully, you've read the rest that I've written by now, and it's explained more for you.

I have to say, I've not read any other books to do with either edition but should I need to if I was going to be just a player in a game?
First those staunch supporters of 2024 who may have made it this far, this just my personal view as an old player wanting to get back into the D&D fold.

Thirdly, the character creation overall doesn't seem to encourage your imagination as much as the 2014 one does. The character concept I came up with seemed fully rounded with the 2014 but when I tried to do the same with the 2024 it just seemed to be the bare bones needed to throw a few dice.

Secondly, no half Elf characters but you can play a Drow with no mention of them being one of the most evil races out there. Yes in the 2014 book you have the option of playing a Drow as well but at least it says about how rare it is for one of them to follow a path of non evil.

Firstly no option for half Orc characters but you can play a full Orc one! One of the most common opponent races since D&D first came out has now seemed to have changed its ways and, looking at the illustration, have become wild west homesteaders! I can't be the only one that this seems wrong to?

But while reading through the 2024 book I couldn't get the same feel for the character, it just didn't fill out enough for me. There were a few things in the 2024 that, as an older player, didn't seem right to me (I started back in the day with the old Blue Book edition).

So, I've decided to give #D&D 5e a go. I've read through both the 2014 and 2024 Players Handbooks, and I have to say that the 2024 book doesn't seem like D&D to me at all. While reading the 2014 character creation I was getting nice ideas for a character and everything seemed to click.

I'm tempted to buy a second copy so we can get eight up to players.

We had a four player game of Worms last night, it really is like playing the old video game! Great fun 😄

Not so much laziness, more that I didn't want to paint a whole army the same colour as I've always found that very boring and tedious 😄

I've not seen any of the latest fluff, but the photos certainly have a chaos look to them. My original Corsair marines still wore the colours of their original chapters, but all the Imperial insignia and shoulder pads were painted red. I basically did it so I didn't have to paint them all the same 😄

My all time favourite rpg is WEG Star Wars 2nd ed (either version), rather than a starter set it has a brief intro to the rules then a ready made character you use for a choose your own path type adventure to explain the game. A great idea to get the basics in place and an intro to rpg's.

I liked Huron and his mob when they were more renegade marines from all the different chapters rather than chaos. I even scratchbuilt a Huron following the original fluff where it was his left side that was replaced.

I remember the days when most Call of Cthulhu games were trying to stop cultists, ghouls, or ghosts, rarely, if ever, did any big grobblies turn up (if they did your character would go mad...).

Came across these ships while looking for something else (always the way). The top row is possibly #Battletech and #RenegadeLegion and the second row maybe Battletech but I've no idea about the bottom two rows, do any of you old gronards out there have any ideas?

Its the same with most tv series now. Remember the days when an episode was a complete story? Now, a whole season is the story, and it may not end then (and my partner wonders why I prefer to watch old series rather than new...).

Since 40k was first released I've wanted a 'true scale' marine force. I loved the original black armoured Dark Angels, so I've decided to use Primaris and their ilk to create a DA force usable for 1st to 3rd ed. A bit of customising will be needed for things like heavy weapons.
