Because everything feels surreal I figured I should lean all the way in. So I'm reading Metamorphosis by Kafka.

And as my husband is halfway down a cave today and I am terrified of such activities, I got a huge chuckle out of this (my apologies if misquoted slightly):

"I got into caving as a kind of way of cheating on my wife. She was afraid of heights and didn't like me climbing. So I did it in reverse."

Just finished watching a conversation with Percival Everett through our local libraries today. I bet he would be fascinating to just hang out with and listen to. He seemed a little awkward about being fawned over, but he's so disarming and knowledgeable. Big professor dad vibes and I love it.

I love Some Like It Hot so much. Now I'm going to have to go rewatch Double Indemnity.

One teacher my kid had would give out 1 token each at the start of the day. You could lose for poor behavior or get an extra for extremely good (so never). End of the day raffle for 1 kid to choose something from the plastic junk prize box. But you need to go to the bathroom? That costs a token.

In Hill House this sentence stands out to me as the kind of thing high school English teachers dream about:

"The only person in the world she genuinely hated, now that her mother was dead, was her sister."

So much conveyed with so few words. It's deceptively simple, but Jackson was so skillful.

Wolf Winter by Cecilia Ekbäck is excellent. Religion is an important core of it, although it's not demons and curses horror if that's more what you're looking for.

Yes! They got a bunch of really stellar authors to write their stories in the universe and they're great.

Chuck Tingle's Bury Your Gays was wonderful. Very cathartic sci-fi horror. Spicy books have never been my thing so despite loving Chuck and his unrepenting authenticity & humor, I've never read his books. Having a book that feels tailored for me was a real treat. Really looking forward to Lucky Day!

Revisiting WoW is a similar feeling to visiting my home city. Not nostalgia; just hollow memory of having been there once. That memory place doesn't exist any more. And no, nothing will ever recapture that excited fear of cat-form sneaking into a new zone way outside my level for the 1st time.
