My first birds of the day were American Crows. Actually they were some of the only birds I saw today. They're intelligent, creative and community minded. I'm going to take that as a good sign for 2025

Friendly reminder for this new year: if you want to draw you only need one thing: DRAW
It's okay if you don't have art studies, if you're bad at anatomy or color, if you draw on a napkin or if it looks β€œugly” to you...
You don’t need to be β€œgood” at something to have fun!

Color lithograph print of a brown classic tabby lying on a wooden railing, one back leg dangling down. The coat is rich and beautiful, shades of black and brown creating tiger strips on the legs and making a classic tabby swirl on the abdomen. It has intense yellow eyes. Behind it is a wall of foliage, every done is warm, golden tones.

Her Highness, the Great Frigatebird Chick

Great Frigatebirds are aerial acrobats and will often steal meals from other seabirds. Great Frigatebird chicks take a long time to develop, fledging in 4-6 months, depending on food supply.

A juvenile male White-winged Crossbill extracts seeds from a spruce cone in the late afternoon light. They are an irruptive finch that follow the cone crops in winter. Their unique bills have evolved to allow them to easily get the seeds out of the cones!

I took advantage of the warm day to head outside for a sit on the deck and I noticed spruce cones falling all around me.
I hadn’t seen them for a few years, but here they were … Crossbills!
This juvenile male White-winged Crossbill came down to eat his prized cone in the late afternoon light!
