These terms were invented to get around filters and get monetised on TikTok. In that context, the implementation of the term is rooted in capitalism and censorship, which isn't great. It's also deeply off-putting to use it in a book where an adult nearly dies and goes, 'I was almost unalived!'

A collage of 6 books in two rows on a navy background with stars.
From left to right with ratings given by the reader:
1. "A Grief Observed" by C.S. Lewis (5/5)
2. "Casual" by Koji A. Dae (2.5/5)
3. "Digital Minimalism" by Cal Newport (2/5)
4. "Elric of Melnibone" by Michael Moorcock (3/5)
5. "Light From Uncommon Stars" by Ryka Aoki (2.5/5)
6. "Nightbitch" by Rachel Yoder (2/5)
Here's my July reading wrap up! Most of these I felt really conflicted about; Casual, Nightbitch, & Light From Uncommon Stars in particular. I liked the themes presented in each and feel they are important but would have changed some things...
