I've learned from @500songspodcast.bsky.social that after Sgt. Pepper, just about every band did their own Sgt. Pepper's, except the Beatles, who'd just done their Pet Sounds.

But as someone who lost the story of the Beach Boys between Pet Sounds and Kokomo, I'm in awe of how far out they got.

That thing about creating something completely new that seems obvious or natural afterwards is one of the primary hallmarks of what I consider genius

I feel bad not getting a thrill from Springsteen. It's the same way I feel about Robert Altman. They're both clearly spectacularly talented, highly influential, their work loved by people I respect ... so I'm like, must be something wrong with me

I bet Springsteen is a blast to see live in concert.

(This is my passive aggressive way of saying his recordings just don't do it for me)

The more well-intentioned version is "white culture cannot be influenced by Black culture, it can only steal from it" which I think is trying to be enlightened but ultimately is unfair to both parties

The best kind of quiz is the one where you learn something, and not only did the quiz teach me a couple facts (e.g. that BRC's Achy Breaky Heart was a remake) but it also confirmed how much I've learned from @500songspodcast.bsky.social , which acconted for at least 5 of my points
