A brief response to @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social talking about the Supreme Court ruling regarding trans people (and, as is always necessary nowadays, an endorsement of @zackpolanski.bsky.social and the Green Party).

I'm so sick of discourse from supposed allies about where trans people went wrong.

Where we "went wrong" is that billionaires spent unimaginably large sums to attack us repeatedly and major media outlets have spent a decade piling on.

It's not a particularly pleasant conversation to have, but we need to interrogate Brianna's mother's role in making it about phones and not about their child's gender identity making them a target for bigots.

I really believe this is the most vile gaslighting campaign anti-LGBT extremists have ever run.

Brianna was murdered by kids she knew in real life (not met online), but they've turned her murder into a crusade against kids having access to social media.

Starmer has just ended, by dictatorial fiat, a harm-reduction policy that protected minority groups dating back to the murder of Stephen Lawrence, because he hates trans people.

Met Police says it will no longer investigate non-crime hate incidents The move comes as an investigation into Father Ted creator Graham Linehan is dropped, after his arrest over a post on X.

1993: Stephen Lawrence is murdered by racists.
1999: The MacPherson Inquiry recommends recording of non-crime hate incidents.
2005: After the Discrimination Law Review, non-crime hate incidents begin being recorded by UK police.
2025: Mainstream transphobia ends a harm reduction policy that worked.

As with Charlie Kirk, the media seem remarkably reluctant to report on what liberal hero Graham Linehan has actually said.

I wonder if that's because of the libel, or because of the way he's repeatedly incited violence against women and girls?

Labour claimed to be offering a broad tent. Now our Women and Equalities Minister is an anti-LGBTQ Catholic who regularly takes advice from a failed tax lawyer.

Who thinks period poverty is a myth and that cartoon aliens make women unsafe.

The phrase "trans activist" is goofy because like 95% of the time it's used it refers to a trans person simply existing.

Media, pointing at a woman buying a coffee: behold, a trans activist.

Woman: buying coffee is not activism stop being so fucking weird

Media: trans activist criticizes media

I think its more so that stevenson has a 'moral' clean slate and can brush criticism off as 'procedural failings of the previous administration'.

No. They're procedural bullies. They want the veneer of law to be on their side sso that they can hold it up in 'polite society' that they were right and moral and just.

A new study shows what we know: Journalism is failing on trans rights coverage.

70% of stories about Trump’s executive orders affecting trans people didn’t quote trans people.

They’re talking ABOUT trans people not with them.

This is a very important legal case, whereby the enforcement of equal human rights for trans ppl, ruled by the European Court of Human Rights, is actually carried out by the British govt. Having not done so, as legally required, brings the British state into disrepute, & undermines human rights.

The whole point of human rights law is that the Government can be held to account when they breach people's rights.

If the Home Secretary doesn't like it, that's why she needs to hear it.

Text too small to see. Small amount in left column, huge amount of text in the other columns

From a presentation by Dr Hamnvik at the Oslo Trans Health Conference.

The column on the left is the diagnostic guidelines for gender incongruence.

The middle & right columns are the diagnostic criteria for depression.

If a GP can diagnose depression they can diagnose gender incongruence.

trans ppl in scotland spent 10 years arguing for self id? they did everything right. went to every meeting, every debate, lobbied politicians – everything.

then they won with a 2 thirds cross-party super majority.

sunak & starmer snapped their fingers and said β€˜no’.

democracy is broken.

the result? we won the argument

keir starmer and rishi sunak just said 'no'

"They're trying to convince people they can't do the things they've been doing easily for years - to write emails, to write a presentation. Your daughter wants you to make up a bedtime story about puppies - to write that for you." We will get to the point, she says with a grim laugh, "that you will essentially become just a skin bag of organs and bones, nothing else. You won't know anything and you will be told repeatedly that you can't do it, which is the opposite of what life has to offer. Capitulating all kinds of decisions like where to go on vacation, what to wear today, who to date, what to eat.
People are already doing this. You won't have to process grief, because you'll have uploaded photos and voice messages from your mother who just died, and then she can talk to you via AI video call every day. One of the ways it's going to destroy humans, long before there's a nuclear disaster, is going to be the emotional hollowing-out of people." - author and filmmaker Justine Bateman from a piece by Emine Saner for the Guardian

It's fascinating and revealing how many centrists think refusing to compromise on human rights to gain the support of bigots represents a "political purity test," yet also think that a bigot saying "I won't join you unless you accommodate my bigotry" does NOT represent a "political purity test."
