In the UK if gas supply is tight we prioritise domestic use over large industrial customers for safety reasons. Industrial users will have a level of competency to deal with that situation, whereas it would be a nightmare dealing with loss of supply at the household level.

The threat from China and Russia is hollow. How are China going to get there - through the Bearing Straight which the US controls, and the Russian navy just got humbled by a bunch of jetskis with bombs strapped to them. It's just bollox. US will lose more than it gains if it ruptures with Europe.

If Trump takes Greenland the US will lose all its bases in Europe, which would massively affect their ability to project power around the world. That would be more significant than any gain Greenland is and I'm sure the US military are making that point to him.

Drought is the biggest risk to farming - there will be pressure on land to store much more water in reservoirs in southern England over coming years. Floating solar systems work better and reduce evaporation. We just need to be clever and make sure every hectare is used wisely.

40% of arable land grows fodder crops for livestock. Eating less meat opens that land for other uses.

Not disagreeing - ironically the biggest risk to arable land is climate change. Even under current ambitions total land use for ground mounted solar will be 0.6% of the UK, less than the area covered in golf courses.

Approx 2% of all UK arable land grows crops which get turned into fuel - looks like farming, tractors and stuff moving around, but it is for power production, not food. The same amount of land with solar would be much, much, much more efficient plus better for nature, no pesticides, fertilisers etc.

Take the electricity used to make the fuel and charge an EV - you'll be surprised at how much further you can drive.

With the cooling provided by the water, and the possibility to rotate floating arrays to track the sun, it could generate more energy than an equivalent fixed land based system. Let's hope testing goes well.

Must be 40 years since I watched it - most shows from back then haven't aged well.

When MASH was broadcast in Britain they removed the laugh track. I remember they accidentally left it in one episode and there were loads of complaints to the BBC. Loved that show - sad day.
