i grew up one pasture over from an actual cowboy and ranch foreman who held team roping at his place every weekend and as a result i have observed that all involves a lot of hard work and cow shit and no thank you

there are obviously big trucks in legitimately rural areas but they generally are not of the king ranch edition variety iykwim

i will never not be frustrated by the ways in which certain ubiquitous "rural" iconography -- big $100,000 trucks and pricey boots, etc etc -- is really just suburban and exurbanites doing cowboy cosplay

i do not want to make videos for the same reason i didn't want to be in theatre or dance class, i am not a performer. turns out that's a specific skill that should be honed and not forced upon everyone including accountants and dentists

a consequence of every writer/journalist/reporter being shoved into doing video content is that a lot of videos fucking suck now

my “AI is over” anecdote is that my wife was hired over the summer to write scripts for a big tech company explaining how to use their AI tools and after many rounds of revisions, the latest notes said “we’re finding a lot of AI fatigue among our users” and to remove all references to AI

okay yeah making stuffing with sourdough *and* chicken stock that i made myself is truly bringing on unprecedented levels of smug
