For some unknown reason Alyea was one of my favorite players as a kid. He didn’t play for any of my teams or anything. Just weird.

I wonder the last time anyone ever had a 200+ card stack of raw T205s or T207s. Certainly not a common occurrence in 2025.

As a kid his 70T card with the dark batting glove always bugged me. Did Leo Cardenas throw really hard or something?

In all of my years watching baseball going back to the early 1970s I would easily put Mike Aldrete as the king of those plays. No one else comes close.

I still remember the day I brought this comic as I was out with my mom and she wanted to stop at the fabric store and to keep me from going nuts waiting for her we stopped at the nearby 7-11 to get me something to read. I still have that copy in my collection.

Four weeks is a good length of time; but five to six weeks sounds like a better time period, ha!

Personally us boomers would like to not see any of those fancy “we didn’t have a kid” categories like Silver Slugger at all…

And home plate should be flip 180 degrees as well…

Thanks for the confirmation. I wasn’t into gothic/horror/war comics. But with my brother being only into war comics I certainly was exposed to them.

You were definitely more open minded about your comics. For me no amount of “badass” covers could overcome a cover with “Love” in the title, lol. Of course those choices did cause me to miss out on some now valuable books.

At the time of this card he was possibly the most valuable asset any team had at only 23 years old.

I’m a little older but I certainly did get most of those Marvels and about half of the DCs in that picture. But I definitely didn’t get that “Forbidden Love” issue, not at all the target audience, lol.

Very weird for that 7-11. My choices within biking distance were
A. 7-11, but the comics were in bad shape
B. Local supermarket but the comics were in even worse shape
C. A pharmacy with good shape comics but always try to tax the comics and had to argue each time for no tax.

Was that a common thing to only sell DCs in something as big as 7-11? Maybe it was a regional thing? The 7-11s in my area (SF Bay Area) at that time sold both Marvel and DC. Did you have an place to buy Marvels at the time? But at least your 7-11 was close, mine was 3 miles away.

This period of ASM switched me from a DC fan to a Marvel fan as a kid.

The Marvel traveling exhibit I went to had what they said was the only known surviving OA page from this issue. It was at the very beginning of the exhibit and it was so hard leaving that room!
