Lower limits on Cork’s streets “will take many decades” if the public does not send a clear message to Cork City Council Members of the public in Cork City are being asked to get behind the wider adoption of 30km/h speed limits in the city, campaigners have said. The move to set 30km/h speed limits in cities and towns was delayed when the Government abandoned a system that would have made 30km/h the base limit for urban areas. The new system of councils rolling out the lower limits has started.

4pm Sat 31st May. Lee to Sea Jamboree. Gayerhing at Cortado Coffee on the marina. No booking reqruired. Bring your own bike. Cycling along the Cork Harbour Greenway with a view of the Ocean to City race. Finishing with a liv le concert by BoolaBoom at 6pm on the Marina Prominade.

A great afternoon was had by all at our first ever Bike Week event today!

We took in a cylce through the Regional Park explored the bikes lanes of Ballincollig, and finished up with coffees and treats at Cafe Chico!

BST will be holding a public meeting this week to chat about plans for this year's upcoming Bike Week amongst other things. Join us at 7.30pm, Wed 2nd Apr, at the Cork Biodiversity Hub at the entrance to Regional Park by the GAA club. Anyone interested in coming along is welcome!

What a brilliant day at the Ballincollig St Patrick's Day Parade. Such a big turnout on the streets and it was thrilling to take part with so many other wonderful groups from around the community! A great day for the village! ☘️☘️☘️

We're thrilled to be taking part in the Ballincollig St Patrick's Day Parade this year. Our group, of all ages and abilities, will be marching, cycling, and strolling behind this banner so keep an eye out for us! Ayone who would like to join us can get in touch. The parade begins at 3pm

So much space becomes redundant, marked by diagonal white lines here, because of right turning lanes. You could literally drive a bus through it.

Continous cycle lane, pedestrian crossing and traffic lights removed while even more space was given over to traffic to accomodate extra turning lanes on both roads

Interesting comparison between most recent Google Earth photo in 2023 at this junction at Carrigrohane Rd/Leo Murphy Rd, and 2nd pic from 2010. All active travel measures were removed not long after being installed here. There has been progress in Ballincollig over the years, just not here.

I welcome Taoiseach Micheál Martin's pledge to "back effort to hire more bus drivers for Cork"—I just hope it's not another empty promise.

In 2025, Cork people can't rely on buses to get to school, college, or work.

There's a 30km limit in the pipeline for urban centres later in the year. No dates or locations set in stone yet it seems.

Speed limits are changing from 80km to 60km today on rural local roads across Ireland. In Ballincollig, the area marked red in the image below, Curraheen Rd & Maglin Rd, has been reduced. The Lee Rd is also now 60km and there are lots of changes around Blarney and elsewhere to be aware of also.

Ya, infrastructure like this makes walking, cycling, getting a bus, a challenge. A junction like this serving so many schools, estates, shops, & much, much more needs to be better. Bus Connects really needs to get this section spot on.

This is the junction at Eastgate in Ballincollig. Narrow footpaths with obstacles, a pinch point for buses and no safe route through for cyclists. As a main artery into Ballincollig village, improvements under Bus Connects can't come quick enough.

A good reminder that cycle lanes and footpaths don't appear congested as they (mostly) allow people to move through quickly and efficiently.
