Be *extra* careful if traveling westbound on the detour.
Drivers are not looking for westbound traffic on 28th and I know of at least one crash (last night, car/scooters) already since the detour went in.

The ongoing pandemic of Covid-19 is the result of governments worldwide deliberately allowing SARS-CoV-2, an airborne virus, to spread without any control.

Over the weekend ICE abducted an NIH contractor when he showed up to a courthouse for his green card hearing. He is documented. His wife is a citizen.
He is also member of the skeleton crew of animal care staff that works through a shutdown, to ensure the health and wellbeing of research animals.
If you think these arenβt coming to Minneapolis let me introduce you to the mayor who helped usher in Uber to kill the cab industry. Your turn, Uber drivers.

Bike lanes, well-lit crosswalks, and slower speeds are basically the same as airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control for cars. When it comes to cars, you can't sell them without these safety features in 2025. And yet.
07.10.2025 19:22 β π 8 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0A few days ago a Tesla pulled away from the curb about half a block in front of me (on bike) and then very slowly crept down the street. Driver was kind of hunched over, and as I overtook I glanced inside to see him messing around with the touchscreen.
iPads and cars, together at last! Joy.
Waymo singlehandedly kept the AV sector going by moving slow, being patient, and not taking the kinds of risks that blew up other developers (and burning billions a year to do so).
Now they're scaling fast, and cash is pouring back into the sector, but the worrying episode count is rising as well.
It's that cars are the primary source of funding for fascism:
Through gasoline purchases (largest GOP donors); through electric car purchases (Elon Musk -- largest GOP donor); through car dealerships (largest state/local GOP donors); through highway subsidies (major GOP donors, and city destroyers)
the synergy between bikes and trains isn't talked about or lauded enough. there's nothing like stepping off the train on to the platform, grabbing your bike from the luggage car, and pedaling off into a new city or neighborhood and I hope more people in the US get to experience it
07.10.2025 13:45 β π 13 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Folding bikes open up so many options for getting places. A couple years some free time opened up where I could go hang out with family and it was similar priced to buy a folding bike and bus tickets than to rent a car for a week at the last minute. I've used the folding bike quite a bit since.

In a Dem Forest leaves lay on a bike trail with a pinkish orange guy through the trees overhead. Leaves on the trees are yellow and green indicating fall is here
Over a rural green field pastel colors of a sunset lead to pinkish orange clouds on the horizon. Tall poplars form a row of trees leaning towards a moon just above the horizon
Tell me the last time you were commuting home on the highway, pulled over, got out, and savoured the silence, fresh air, and sunset for a solid five minutes.
Oh wait you can't.
Tonight's commute:
A utility box is knocked over and destroyed by a reckless driver who jumped the curb
A reckless driver going uphill left the roadway and knocked over a lamppost and sign
A reckless driver jumped a curb and hit a sign, leaving a piece of their bumper behind
A reckless driver jumped the curb on a dangerous and stupidly designed roundabout, hitting and destroying a lamppost
The most basic and important rule of driving: don't hit things with your car.
Drivers seem to really be struggling with this recently - all photos since Thursday!
Seriously people, it's really not that hard.
At least maybe the city can install theft-resistant lampposts where these were destroyed.
Itβs actually good and right to find joy even as things fall apart. Now more than ever it is good to find joy and happiness where you can. Itβs ok and good not to consume the horrors all of the time.

What about folks discovering transit and saving money because driving is so incredibly expensive?

I bike around the city seeing people endanger their lives (mine if they're driving) because they can't tear their eyes off their smartphone screens. It's so ubiquitous many systems now assume you have one. Phone culture has reached car culture levels.
