One of the (many) things I love about Bryant is that it was a completely average American street (2 way traffic, 2 side car parking).

Most streets in the U.S. have plenty of space for protected bikeways.

We just need to make safety (for all road users) a priority.

When four homes replace a SFH, each new home is about the same price as the original, and at 5 units or more, the new homes tend to be more affordable. But the critical comparison is to the 1-for-1 replacement — a mansionization, in other words.

This is what I really like about a lot of the St Paul and Minneapolis suburbs in general by bike. It feels so nice not being hemmed into certain parts of the area just because I don't want to drive.

I don't like being limited to leaving downtown at midnight so I bike to be able to stay out later but not have to drive home.

It is so nice biking home at that hour.

You can be pro-city without being anti-everything else. Suburbia isn't disappearing, so instead of treating it like a lost cause, start treating it like the fixer-upper it actually is. Healthy suburbs are possible.

For me, the difference is that cedarfest and the @ourstreetsmn.org Imagine series have a purpose behind them beyond just opening up the street and bringing on vendors.

What I would love to see is open streets used as a test run for full pedestrianization for certain streets. Raise the stakes.

The way we design our streets makes it nearly impossible for Americans to see walking as transportation or bikes as anything other than toys for kids or weekend fun.

People say stuff like, “I would live in Minneapolis but it’s too expensive” a lot. And, fair. The cost of housing is absurd. We need to build more housing. But often it seems it’s not that it’s too expensive, but rather that the suburbs have cooked their brains with “bigger is always better.” 1/4

Why are bike lanes being fought so hard right now? Powerful people are trying to take away an option for people to fight the climate crisis. To keep us in cars to concentrate wealth through the expense of car ownership. This more than bike lanes this is democracy we are fighting for.

I mean, how else do we cultivate in students (& ourselves) the habits of asking questions & evaluating answers— even of and from themselves— critical distance, & a wariness of confirmation bias, before they're confronted with a "AI" tools designed to make people like & accept whatever they tell us?

I noticed the same thing with the V-Flex N95 any time AQI>165. It helps so much to still be able to bike even when it's like this outside.

The massive list of suspended UCLA grants came out today: 300 NSF and 500 NIH grants. I am miraculously not on the list, but this is devastating. Science will be lost, progress will be frozen, people will lose jobs, and careers in science and medicine are being destroyed. This is not ok.
