Since Trump returned to office, the Education Department’s civil rights office has not resolved a single racial harassment investigation.

It sends a message that β€œpeople impacted by racial discrimination ... don’t matter,” one attorney said.

loved every second of Bad Bunny. That message of inclusion and a celebration of cultures like Puerto Rico’s is just what America needs right now. Plus, his music just gets you in motion. 10/10

Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientistβ€”because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Ian Austin, an Army veteran, was arrested for protesting ICE in Minneapolis. But he’s continued protesting. Senior reporter @julialurie.bsky.social spoke to him.

β€œWhen they say, β€˜Why would you be out here?’ How the fuck could I not be out here?” he says. β€œMy nation is under attack."

Quick question… they spent all that time in Minnesota

Kidnapping
Killing
And causing chaos

Did it make America great?

Did it make your life for a single moment better?

Here's a regular white guy (literally "Chad") not a protester. because, "It seemed pointless, or just a way for people to expiate their sense of guilt." Chad witnessed something shattering. And, that all changed in a moment.

Excellent article!

one of many reminders you’ll get on MLK day that he was a radical. do not cherry-pick his quotes about love today, especially if you are white:

Yes. Do you know how many families are being supported by their neighbors right now? Families afraid to leave home being fed by their neighborhoods; immigrant communities feeding the old hippies standing on their street corners with whistles in 10-degree snowstorms. They cannot break us

Yesterday, these incompetent fucks were just going door-to-door in a neighborhood near my house at 8:30 in the morning. School buses were driving through trying to pick up kids, people were out walking their dogs, and people were taking out their trash cans.

This is one of the biggest reasons I insist the BEST way to understand *waves arms* ALL of this is to see Trump, and all those he surrounds himself with, as what they *absolutely are*.

They're abusers. No different from any of those terrorizing uncounted numbers of partners, kids, & households.

Excerpt from Wikipedia reads: "Fight against merchandising his characters
For years, Watterson battled against pressure from publishers to merchandise his work, something that he felt would cheapen his comic through compromising the act of creation or reading.[21][22]

He refused to merchandise his creations on the grounds that displaying Calvin and Hobbes images on commercially sold mugs, stickers, and T-shirts would devalue the characters and their personalities. Watterson said that Universal kept putting pressure on him and that he had signed his contract without fully perusing it because, as a new artist, he was happy just to find a syndicate willing to give him a chance (two other syndicates had previously turned him down). He added that the contract was so one-sided that, if Universal really wanted to, they could license his characters against his will, and could even fire him and continue Calvin and Hobbes with a new artist. Watterson's position eventually won out, and he was able to renegotiate his contract so that he would receive all rights to his work. Later he said that the licensing fight exhausted him and contributed to the need for a nine-month sabbatical in 1991.[23]"

Bill Watterson is my favorite cartoonist. I adored the relationship btw Calvin and Hobbes as a child. But as I've gotten older, these strips feel even more tender and insightful. My respect for him grew when I learned of his stance against merchandising. Such principles are almost unheard of today.
