This is very sad news. I remember seeing Burawoy at a conference in grad school when he was developing his Public Sociology argument. It was exactly the type of thing I needed to hear at the time, and his ideas about the public role of scholarship are even more important today.

Cemented my status as a "tech genius" by spending thirty seconds to connect my Mom's phone to a new Bluetooth speaker.

I used to think the Chronicle was a useful source of information about the US academy. Now, at a time when places like my hometown University are axing whole departments like Philosophy and History (in liberal utopia Minnesota!) the Chronicle is like "maybe the students are the real fascists."
