I liked One Battle After Another. BUT the hyper-sexualization of Black women and the absence of commentary on it was...interesting. The subtext was text as Black people say.

05.10.2025 00:45 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I have written, worried and worked around the βfairness gapβ described here my whole academic career. I will say that the changes in reading that we are currently talking about arenβt really about that. It is so much bigger & sudden than that which is why I think people are talking about it.
04.10.2025 16:19 β π 223 π 30 π¬ 5 π 1My favorite armchair comment is Americans donβt understand authoritarianism, because so many of you donβt count Black people as Americans. Learn the history or shut up.

These Kenyan activists were detained while rallying with Bobi Wine in Uganda.
Others were detained and tortured while supporting Tanzania's opposition in June.
And Ugandan opposition figure Kizza Besigye was abducted in Nairobi and extraordinary renditioned to Kampala last year.
BREAKING: The director of the presidential library and museum in Abilene, Kansas, said he was suddenly told to resign or be fired. He refused to give the Trump administration a historic sword from the museumβs collection.
02.10.2025 14:02 β π 1527 π 711 π¬ 81 π 149the going definition of "working class" seems to be whether or not one went to college. look I know we're not going to agree on here about what "working-class" is but can we all agree it's not that?
02.10.2025 19:02 β π 1735 π 263 π¬ 83 π 46I am curious about One Battle After Another. I'm worried it will be empty "both-sides" politics like Civil War. It's been getting good reviews. I'm just starting to hear feedback from Black leftists and it has been...less than stellar. OBAN is almost 3 hours so, I want to hear more before committing
02.10.2025 19:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I havenβt said this enough lately. There are lessons to be taken from the Black folks and activists who have been fighting fascists for a very long time. Often under worse conditions with far less options.

My book, White Power: Policing American Slavery, is now available for preorder.

Holocaust revisionism and white nationalism did not become societally verboten on their own. It took great effort and enormous sacrifice to construct the line that ruled them unacceptable within mainstream discourse, and even then they were always contested, the line always being challenged.
28.09.2025 22:32 β π 389 π 69 π¬ 2 π 0the other half of this that I've never really gotten over: this all but explicitly amounts to valorizing being "asleep". people are really out here wielding "I have no idea what's going on, historically speaking" as a credential
28.09.2025 19:28 β π 1195 π 282 π¬ 27 π 7We can dunk on Silver. But the folks wildly hyping Adams in 2021-22 included Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden. The desire for a prominent BLACK politician who was pro-police and hostile to the BLM movement was broadly shared within elite Dem circles. They ignored obvious signs he was corrupt and inept.

28.09.2025 18:28 β π 465 π 143 π¬ 3 π 9My latest:βThrough gossamer tributes, Kirkβs cruel condemnation of transgender people & his racist throwback views abt Black Americans were no longer anathema but instead are being treated as just another political view to be respectfully debated βlike a position on tax rates or health care policy.β
28.09.2025 15:04 β π 2197 π 634 π¬ 46 π 43it is just a straightforward statement of fact to say that the trump administration sees any black student at an elite institution as one too many
28.09.2025 00:13 β π 4676 π 959 π¬ 47 π 39The Department of Education followed Bondiβs memo with a demand for new admissions data on the racial makeup, standardized-test scores, and GPA of applicants and admitted students for all institutions that receive federal student aid. Justin Driver, a Yale Law professor and the author of The Fall of Affirmative Action, told me that he expects any elite college that doesnβt start enrolling fewer Black students to be accused by the Trump administration of breaking the law.
28.09.2025 00:13 β π 1454 π 359 π¬ 31 π 23This is precisely the claim that evidently animates the rigthwing majority on the Court: That any "burden" placed upon the regime by insisting the constitution is still in effect, the separation of powers is still a thing, and the law is still the law, causes the government irreparable harm.
27.09.2025 13:19 β π 1037 π 322 π¬ 22 π 12I often say that conservatives want to repeal the various Civil Rights Act but itβs probably more accurate to say they want to overturn the Reconstruction amendments.

26.09.2025 01:10 β π 189 π 37 π¬ 7 π 1Now that summer is over, Chicago is still on track to have fewer homicides in 2025 than almost any other year since 2001. This is especially impressive considering that the five most violent years of the 21st century have all been in the past decade.
25.09.2025 19:49 β π 816 π 214 π¬ 11 π 19If you want to oppose βpolitical violence,β then demand the abolition of ICE, the end of an ongoing genocide, and insist Congress stop killing people by forcing for-profit healthcare exclusion on us.
