My web design inspiration video for Envato: Lessons from Design Greats

πŸ‘‰ Lessons from Design Greats

Late last year, I turned my wee studio into a space for shooting a web design inspiration tutorial for Envato. Well, the video is now live on their YouTube channel, and I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

Chris Mason: Labour is still blaming the Conservatives A year on from the election, the government needs to demonstrate delivery to claw back some popularity.

I’m just checking for Chris Mason’s many pieces about it being unfair for the Tories to blame the last Labour government from 2011-2024 but all I can find is him blowing their ego about how great that was www.bbc.com/news/article...

Starmer is as bad as those who came before him. What a bitter disappointment Echoing the far right on immigration, his moral and intellectual stature has fallen away

Hard to say how disappointing this morningβ€˜s speech really was. Morally AND intellectually.

Whose land? Tax avoidance and the broken economics of British farming Noise in the billionaire press about inheritance tax changes hides a basic fact: the non-farming rich own too much land

And here is the fantastic article from @yorkshirebylines.co.uk.

Screenshot from Telegraph article by notorious commentator Bjorn Lomborg. A mini-headline reads "The world's poorest do not lead lectures on their paltry carbon emissions. They need growth plans". The text reads: "Other big western oil companies are also returning to their roots – while state-owned oil giants like Saudi Aramco, Sinopec, Petrobras and Rosneft never made dramatic green promises in the first place.
These green pledges were always silly. Humanity has spent trillions on climate policy, but more than four-fifths of global energy is still supplied by fossil fuels. Over the past half-century, fossil fuel energy has more than doubled, with 2023 again setting a new record. Consumers and businesses want more energy. It is a foolish company that declares it will supply less. Banks have also abandoned their fling with green virtue signalling..." and "no organisations have gone further than multilateral development banks in virtue signalling and putting climate ideology over common sense. The World Bank and the African Development Bank divert a whopping 45 per cent and 55 per cent of annual financing respectively to climate-related projects."

The Telegraph is already notorious for its toxic climate coverage. Today the paper carries an article attacking companies who make green pledges and pushing for continued use of fossil fuels.

Majority of attempts to ban books in US come from organised groups, not parents Last year 72% of demands to censor books were initiated by pressure groups and government entities; with just 16% of ban attempts made by parents

β€œThese demands to remove & restrict books are not the result of any grassroots or popular sentiment…The majority are now originating from well-funded, organised groups and movements…” Sounds familiar to anyone who’s been dragged into UK culture wars too.

We're not Russia. We're not China. So why do we punish peaceful protest so harshly?

6 out of 16 climate protesters see their sentences mildly reduced...

Fuelling the climate crisis, denying the climate crisis - both should be a crime - not peaceful protest to prevent it.

If UK suffers from shortage of truckers, why are drivers leaving the industry? Amidst an HGV driver shortage, more and more drivers enter the industry only to leave it very soon after. Why?

"Britain’s overcrowded road network is stressful to drive and offers very little infrastructure for truckers. You’ll struggle to find a safe place to park, a clean shower or a place to eat decent food – and wherever you go, you’ll be expected to pay a fortune for it."

Brake pad dust can be more toxic than exhaust emissions, study says Research shows move to electric vehicles may not be enough to enable pollution from cars to be eradicated

This Guardian article on brake pad dust misses some fairly important context

EVs use friction brakes far less than internal combustion engine (ICE) cars, because of the magic of regenerative braking

Meaning they produce less of this toxic dust

Thought experiment for Labour…
With over 4yrs and a huge majority, why not stir it up? Pitch your tent defiantly on the liberal lawn, loudly reject the epic failures of Brexit and rightwing immigration ideology and see how many liberal votes you gain instead of chasing Reform into a toxic dead end?

Hydrogen Has Failed In Cars And It Won’t Be Powering Trucks Either With dwindling passenger car sales for hydrogen fuel cells, the technology is now looking like a non-starter for heavy-duty trucks as well.

Badenoch: claiming benefits should bar foreign workers from settling in UK Tory leader wants Labour immigration bill to include 10-year period before eligibility for state aid and granting of indefinite leave

Badenoch really is a fucking star isn't she. Her first policy after months as leader and it 1) directly contradict her own stated values.2) raises all sorts of practical nightmares and 3) is morally reprehensible. Full marks.
