CD-ROM Drive Emulation on the PicoGUS!
With @polpo.org 's latest 3.x firmware, the PicoGUS is able to emulate a CD-ROM drive! Using ISO and BIN/CUE images on a USB stick, it eliminates yet another unreliable component with moving parts in a retro PC. Join me today as I take this new feature for a spin!

Itโs good knowing someone else tried similar steps, I was maybe heading in the right direction. Before the disassembly I didnโt get anywhere, so thank you for that. Displaced Gamersโ YouTube series dealing with these issues helped me understand more, so I should revisit it.

I kind of remember that almost worked changing this. Slow frame rate, but it wasnโt stable. It kept crashing. I wouldโve been happy if it was slow but stable, then I could look for any optimizations. But again, I donโt know what Iโm doing.
19.05.2025 22:51 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
That is exactly was what I was trying to figure out myself, but maybe I didnโt go low enough. If the viewport could be shrunk, that would have been my other hope for optimization. Storing some kind of optimized math routines in ROM would be my next guess, but also beyond my abilities.

Oh lol, I already took a stab at it with your documented version, but I had no idea what I was doing. Iโm impressed you got it to work at all on NTSC, and would love to just try the terrible frame rate version on my NES (and see what changes you made!). At least it wouldnโt look all glitchy.
19.05.2025 22:27 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
Hey, the NES version is 6502, right? Bonus points if you get it to work on NTSC, it thinks too hard during VBlank.

Tetris the Grandmaster 1 and 2 for GBA - TGM Mode (3-28-25)
Interesting thing on GBATemp: gbatemp.net/threads/tgma...
Well, that's one way to play TGM. On the GBA, no less.
I still suck at it, though. Not used to the rotation system at all or the immense speed once we're at 20G speed.

Iโm confused about the unreleased 552. Some I recognized as released, but what criteria determined inclusion? Slightly misspelled names for games like Caveman Ughlympics? Is it US centric for games with different names outside Japan like Final Mission? Or new Ghostbusters II being PAL/JPN only?

Neo and the MD scene
"If you get caught using that ..."
I had an MD recorder for music when The Matrix came out, but the data disc scene fascinated me. Itโs probably for the best I never got one, the inefficiencies are hilarious. I keep telling myself I donโt need one, but itโs still so cool to see it in action.

surely thereโs a way to
get the ARM Mac to work, maybe using something like the OSSC Pro as a downscaler?

Weโre going to have to jailbreak our appliances just to add basic features back, like hold down a button combo for 5 seconds to enable rinse mode. Something they couldโve easily done in the first place.

Gutted Catchphrase game with Raspberry Pi Pico, I2C IIC 1602 LED screen
Iโm working on a customizable Catch Phrase project using a Raspberry #PiPico, but I need suggestions for push buttons. Since the new LED screen occupies the same space as the original board, I can only reuse the Next button. I need something thin enough to fit, but also possibly screws in. #arduino

Finally we have aftermarket SRAM/Save Carts for this console, esp useful since the OEM Save Carts are basically impossible to find now.

Barcode Battler II along with Famicom game and adapter running on a NES (with EXP and cart adapters). Instructions and cards scattered about with the game running on a CRT TV.
I own one and recently got the Famicom game/adapter, but Iโve never been able to make ANY progress, keep dying repeatedly. The cards it comes with seem particularly useless. I want to like it but IDGI. Side note, at some point they renamed those other toys to Calico Critters in the US. ๐ค

Wooden chopsticks go through the hole of the Apple //c monitor and its stand to prevent the screen from tipping over onto the ground.
Has anyone managed to 3D print replacement parts for the Apple //c monitor stand? Iโve resorted to using a chopstick to prevent my monitor from falling off.

Finally done with the Performa 6200CD. Moved off everything from the IDE drive and got BlueSCSI to boot correctly. Should be easy to add stuff now, and it runs a lot faster. Now I need to repair the SEโs floppy drive that wonโt stop trying to eject.
