Game developer, mostly. Started in animation on Reboot and Beast Wars back in 95. TD on Unity's Adam shorts. Cinematics on Gears and Call Of Duty.

19.02.2026 08:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0From Luddites to Amish to Organic Food, there's always a guy who says "Back when I was a kid things were normal. Now it's crazy. We gotta draw the line."
Just a question how long the cult around each line lasts.
And it would be a pedestrian bridge to somewhere no pedestrian is going. What's over there? Everyone in the image is going car shopping? I don't see anyone in the picture carrying scrap metal and pallets for recycling. Are they doing a 2 mile Home Depot run on foot?

16.02.2026 20:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm out of touch, does the early access model still work? It seems feasible at least. But radio silence release on the same day you run out of money, hoping the player base will immediately sustain you... pretty big gamble if your burn rate requires a huge player base
13.02.2026 02:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Even Apex didn't really grow in players until guess when? The pandemic.
So I guess there's always the release strategy of hoping a global catastrophe creates an influx of people discovering your game fits an unforeseen social need.
I agree. Decades of entertainment releases say the reverse hockey-stick curve is always the same, you can only change how high the start point is.
Very rarely something sustains or even grows, when the idea is contagious and the market isn't already saturated with competition.
There's an interesting problem with people who work on a huge success. You learn so much more from failure. With success you can only assume everything you did was "the best way".
Nobody wants to admit "getting lucky with an idea's timing" is far more important than marketing or team culture.
I imagine without the trailer the player count curve would have been the same but with a lower starting point. I wonder how many people there think it would have reversed the curve, giving it a build instead? I'd buy that it could have smoothed the curve out, but I think higher total is unlikely...
12.02.2026 04:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A contact two degrees of separation away says they legit did not pay for that slot. Geoff likes people on the team, liked the game, and figured a freebie trailer slot would be better than the complete shadow drop they were planning.
12.02.2026 04:04 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0They keep advertising issues you'd have with a fantasy AI that actually works but is not currently being developed, and equating it with the obvious dead end of 'stochastic autocomplete' that they keep shoveling money into
11.02.2026 06:15 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It always seemed like a dumb workaround but it just occurred to me that it's a great security feature for preventing accidental/malicious software installs, compared to people hammering OK on popups...
10.02.2026 17:43 β π 13 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's not an honest bet, the 'yes' holders plan to sell their stake for a profit before the end. Think of it like investing in a memecoin: nobody thinks the latest meme is the future of finance, but they DO think they can ride a pump and dump to make money.
