Ice sheets working their way down the creek as the tide goes out. The geese seem quite perplexed by the new barrier to paddling. Maybe a good time to remind them about the whole flying thing…

Yesterday it finally started to thaw on the creek. This Hermit Thrush looks pretty happy about it.

The tide on the creek was as low as it’s been in a long while this morning. If it gets any lower the geese will be on top of each other.

Recent visitor. A Northern Flicker. Apparently one of the few migratory woodpeckers. Makes me wonder why he/she isn’t further south at this time of year.

Boring post alert. In the RAF it was a term used to differentiate from other types (Sick Leave, Holiday Leave, and the deadly-sounding Terminal Leave.) Sorry.

We had to say goodbye to George (of the well-known partnership of George and Gracie) on Friday. A smooth operator who was usually content to watch his sister get in trouble, and whose perfect evening was watching Dancing With The Stars (no, really) with the whole family. We will miss him terribly.

Buddy Guy at the Freeman in Selbyville last night. Great show. Hard to believe he’ll be 89 in a couple of weeks.

Just seen this, Steve. No clever words. We’re so sorry. I know you all gave Syd the best life she could possibly have hoped for.

This afternoon’s backyard visitor. He hung around for a few minutes, then went fishing for lunch in the creek. As you can see, I don’t think he caught anything.

Happy St. Andrew’s Day to Scots at home and abroad. It’s also the 164th birthday of my great grandmother Marion, seen here in an Edinburgh studio with one of her grandchildren. I’m guessing that her perfect posture is mostly due to having to keep that hat upright.
