29.01.2025 14:42 β π 26199 π 2918 π¬ 302 π 88How many cancer diagnoses are attributable to formaldehyde annually do you think?
13.01.2025 23:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0To be fair I think heβd look pretty good if he just got a little sun. But obviously he canβt do that.
09.01.2025 05:52 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Not upset, just feel genuinely compelled to defend the H-1B program which contributes enormous value to both foreign workers and every American citizen. I would be upset to see it end and hundreds of thousands of good people deported. Thatβs all. Have a good day.
08.01.2025 18:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Nothing in the story was about sanitary conditions. It was a normal cleaning crew doing their normal job. They were just surprised because there were beds in break rooms. Elon was sleeping there himself. It has nothing to do with the Department of Health and nothing to do with H-1B.
08.01.2025 17:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So Tesla hires and fires such that their workforce grows (enormously) every year and is roughly 1%-2% H-1B workers, and this is βexactlyβ evidence of what? Theyβre hiring tens of thousands of US citizens every single year. What is the issue here?
08.01.2025 17:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But thanks for sharing the video.
08.01.2025 17:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0If all the evidence you have is that a cleaning crew took photos of two beds in break rooms at Twitter, I hope you realize that the claim that theyβre βdetainingβ H-1B workers in a βliteral flophouseβ is completely deranged. No one even pretends that this story has anything to do with H-1B.
08.01.2025 17:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0No, not at allβ¦ theyβre hiring WAY MORE than theyβre firing. Teslaβs head count is increasing by thousands or tens of thousands of employees every year.
08.01.2025 16:49 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A literal flophouse with workers detained? Can you share any evidence at all that this is true? Because I donβt believe you but happy to be proved wrong.
Regardless, whatβs your argument here? What should be done?
H-1B applications are public record. Tesla employs fewer than 2000 people on an H-1B of more than 120k employees. Is that too many? What?
They fire thousands of people every single year and have never applied for more than 1000 new H-1Bs in any single year.
H-1B workers are subject to all of the same labor rights and protections as US citizens. H-1B employers are required to provide the same working conditions for all employees. Iβm not sure what youβre talking about here (link?), but employers who violate the law are bad and should be prosecuted.
08.01.2025 16:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Plenty are not βworking on the cheap.β $150k was conservative. $141k is *25th* percentile. And H-1B employers are legally required to offer prevailing wages. Dept of Labor data show that 78% of H-1B employers offer more than the prevailing wage, 20% more on average (www.cato.org/blog/100-h-1...).
08.01.2025 15:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Not sure what distinction youβre making here. Foreign students can transfer their F1 student visa directly to an H-1B without ever leaving the country.
08.01.2025 15:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I respect you all deeply. H1-B workers come here freely, contribute to the economy and culture and country in innumerable ways, and make, on average, $150k+ a year. Uncritically sharing anything that dismisses them as βindentured servantsβ is beneath this account, truly.
08.01.2025 14:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A single American making $50k/year in 2024 is like top 5% globally and UNFATHOMABLY RICH to most of the worldβs population. Saying that standard of living βmeans nothingβ is detached from reality. It means a lot.
05.01.2025 06:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A lot of people would, in fact, be sad if someone murdered Justin Trudeau because normal people are generally pretty sensitive to murder, especially to the murder of people with whom they feel familiar.
