Someone who thinks about a question all day long is going to be better at articulating it in a debate than a lay person. That doesn't inherently mean the lay person is wrong/needs to change their mind.

But of course impeachment is pretty much a dead letter when Congress is narrowly divided and highly polarized. There's an implicit "The military should refuse unlawful orders", but that clearly isn't happening.

So, then, why bother saying Congress has the sole authority to declare war?

Seems like pretty bad constitutional design that the President can tell the military to do war-like actions outside of a war. We're getting to (already at?) the point where retaliation by COL/VEN is justified, which would force Congress to declare war. The sole sanction for this is impeachment, yes?

The White House has always been a palace. We have weird feelings about that word, so we don't use it. But it is a palace in every sense of the word.
