What I Need You To Understand, Notes from Chicago in Late October | dansinker.com

"What I need you to know is we are organized.
What I need you to know is that you need to get organized.
What I need you to know is they are coming.
What I need you to know is you can stop them...
This is how it works: We protect each other, period. These are our neighbors, our friends, our family"

I donโ€™t know how many times I have to say this but if you didnโ€™t know any geek girls in high school or you donโ€™t know any now itโ€™s because they didnโ€™t trust you and youโ€™re *NOT A SAFE PERSON* for women to be themselves around.

Hello Chief and APD Leadership,

I just wanted to jot a quick thank you note for those who participated in this meeting with the Latino community about ICE in our neighborhoods.

Sadly, this problem is not going away anytime soon. Historically, the police have been on the wrong side of history during the civil rights movement and the labor movement - defending capital. The pivotal points in American history are when police realized that their solidarity should be with labor; not capital.

Labor vs. police: Learning from working-class history Workers World

In this current struggle, I believe that we are 2-3 years away from a moment where we see the shift in solidarity.

I would like to see Aurora lead, and show something different. It will create discomfort during the transformation. I noticed during the march towards Blue Kangaroo, when the police escort disappeared, that activists I didn't know used their vehicles to block the intersections and protect the marchers.

All living things have the capacity to evolve and grow. Government is about to go through a huge evolutionary period and shed that which is not necessary, and re-focus on what is important.

As government continues to disintegrate from the top down, we have an opportunity to re-invent the ways we find food, water, shelter and protection.

We would like the Aurora Police Department to play a historic role in defending the United States of America, and our city against fascism. We have a unique opportunity to do something different, leave our mark in the history books, and make a difference. I'm excited about the opportunity and look forward to discussing it further.

Respectfully, John Laesch Mayor, City of Aurora laesch@aurora.il.us

โ€œSeizing institutions and purging them.โ€ Isnโ€™t rhetoric, itโ€™s a test to see how far Trumpโ€™s followers will go.

Steve Bannon Claims Trump 'Will Be the President' for a Third Term โ€” and Inner Circle Has a 'Plan' Steve Bannon says Donald Trump will serve at least one more term as president, claiming it's 'the will of the American people'

Steve Bannon calls Trump a "vehicle of divine providence" and says he'll get a 3rd term.

All the recent talk of "Antichrist" and demons will increasingly make sense over time.

This is "memetic warfare"โ€”building religious justification for the fascist coup.

I watched this recently for maybe the 3rd or 4th time. Before I was focused more on the cinematic aspects. This time I took in the whole experience - the story, relationships, scenes, etc. I came away in a really strange mood I couldn't shake for days. Something ominous on the edge of awareness.

Absolute immunity from criminal law is non-existent under American law. Even SCOTUS's decision in Trump v US limits presidential immunity to "official acts." States have prosecuted federal officials for violations of state law for over 200 years. 1/

Trumpโ€™s Campaign to Defund the Artsโ€”and Rewrite History "The campaign to defund the arts, capture our museums, and rewrite our history is a prelude to silencing dissent."

Trumpโ€™s war on American culture runs deeper than funding cuts. Itโ€™s a campaign to control art, rewrite history, and decide which truths the public is allowed to see. #authoritarianism

Indiana University banned its student newspaper from printing just days before homecoming weekend โ€” after firing the paperโ€™s advisor when he refused to censor critical coverage.

That would be bad enough on its own, but FIRE is taking this one personally, as the Indiana Daily Student reported this hostile campaign was due in part to its coverage of FIREโ€™s ranking Indiana University as the worst public university for free speech.

You read that right. The schoolโ€™s response to the news that they are bad at free speech โ€ฆ is to censor the news. Itโ€™s ironic โ€” and not just in the Alanis Morissette sense โ€” that these actions will likely push its overall ranking even lower next year. At least we canโ€™t fault them for consistency.

Why did Indiana University attack and cut its own student newspaper?

Well, in a twist of irony any English professor would call clichรฉd, it turns out IU did it because they were angry about the students' reporting on a FIRE report naming IU as the worst public university for free speech in the US.

With millions at risk of losing SNAP in the coming days, a reminder: hunger doesn't happen in isolation. When food assistance disappears, families use rent money to eat. Then come evictions and homelessness.

Housing, food, healthcareโ€”it's all connected. Cut one thread and the whole thing unravels.

That anonymous donor could be foreign. That $130 million could be "military aid" from another nation.

In that scenario, we are Pinochet's Chile, and the unknown foreign donor is Henry Kissinger.

A different DA then got elected and dropped it, but that was after the Ninth Circuit said he didn't have sovereign immunity and could be tried on state charges. It's a high bar to clear but it's not impossible.

Whatever your faith or moral tradition, you likely grew up with a something similar to Matthew 25.

Who is going to stand up for the hungry, the stranger, the poor, the sick, the persecuted?

The answer has to be US.

It also has to be the leaders we vote for.
