The No Kings protest in Mountain View was pretty laid back. Half of us lined up along a 7 mile stretch of El Camino and the other half strapped American flags to their cars and honked non-stop. 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸

Just show up for a few hours, please. You don’t need to bring a sign, you don’t need to talk to anyone if you don’t want to. Please just find a way to be physically present for one of these.

The "For a Few Dollars More" tariff

Sure whatever. 25% tariff on eating ice cream on a hot day next. 50% tariff on petting a dog. 35% tariff on the sound of children laughing. 10% tariff on the smell of flowers. 15% tariff on the cold side of the pillow. And another 25% on China, why not.

Yeah. I just can't figure out what amount of economic relief that implies given:
1) Seems unlikely the liberation day rates are actually coming back at the end of 90 days
2) China deal/unilateral step back seems to be on a different track, than allies' deals
Maybe market disagrees/I'm wrong on 1.

I don’t think Trump has injected bleach into the economy. It’s more like carbon monoxide — it’s filling up the room but a lot of people haven’t felt it yet.

It's a fair point that the Stock Market != economy. But a bunch of consumer staple businesses losing this much value is the quickest signal we have on how bad things are about to get. Direct measurements will take much longer.

There's a new version of KOSA. It has the exact same problem as the old one: Someone has to decide what online experiences "harm" minors.
The guy who is likely to decide has an explicitly anti-trans agenda, among other things.

Same, and, from my perspective, Bluesky has been better than X this time.

Largely, this is on me for not following more journalists/academics covering Korea on X. But, it’s also driven by X’s “for you feed” deteriorating, and not surfacing more discussion/coverage.

Stanislaus comes in, and it’s awful for John Duarte (R), who loses a 1,349 vote batch by 77 votes. He now trails Adam Gray by 182. Fresno may narrow it by 60 or so, but Gray is extremely likely to win #CA13, putting Dems at 215 seats if it holds.

In the 2010’s we were all worried about how anything we ever did on the internet would last forever, but now Google search results don’t pull anything more than 2 weeks old, Twitter search doesn’t work, and everything else that’s old on the internet is broken links or behind a paywall.

I keep hoping that this place will become viable, b/c Elon keeps making the "For you" feed, and things like blocking worse. But all the big accounts I like on Twitter keep having this experience when they try out BlueSky. So I'm kinda pessimistic on it working out.

How does this type of incompetence (and the reprimands) usually play with juries?
- Incompetent side that keeps getting admonished is seen as less credible or
- "Poor them. Seems like the mean judge keeps stopping the [side that is messing up] from telling their story"
