The No Kings protest in Mountain View was pretty laid back. Half of us lined up along a 7 mile stretch of El Camino and the other half strapped American flags to their cars and honked non-stop. ๐บ๐ธ ๐บ๐ธ ๐บ๐ธ

Just show up for a few hours, please. You donโt need to bring a sign, you donโt need to talk to anyone if you donโt want to. Please just find a way to be physically present for one of these.
The "For a Few Dollars More" tariff
05.05.2025 01:39 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Sure whatever. 25% tariff on eating ice cream on a hot day next. 50% tariff on petting a dog. 35% tariff on the sound of children laughing. 10% tariff on the smell of flowers. 15% tariff on the cold side of the pillow. And another 25% on China, why not.
05.05.2025 00:11 โ ๐ 3301 ๐ 666 ๐ฌ 108 ๐ 45Yeah. I just can't figure out what amount of economic relief that implies given:
1) Seems unlikely the liberation day rates are actually coming back at the end of 90 days
2) China deal/unilateral step back seems to be on a different track, than allies' deals
Maybe market disagrees/I'm wrong on 1.
What 2nd order inferences do you the markets would make from a deal with Japan?

05.04.2025 21:48 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0There are still cars and goods to buy at pre-tariff prices. Companies are operating based on capital raised before yesterday. Restaurants will be busy this weekend. But the hit is coming.
04.04.2025 21:36 โ ๐ 147 ๐ 9 ๐ฌ 6 ๐ 0I donโt think Trump has injected bleach into the economy. Itโs more like carbon monoxide โ itโs filling up the room but a lot of people havenโt felt it yet.
04.04.2025 21:36 โ ๐ 273 ๐ 30 ๐ฌ 14 ๐ 3It's a fair point that the Stock Market != economy. But a bunch of consumer staple businesses losing this much value is the quickest signal we have on how bad things are about to get. Direct measurements will take much longer.

If youโre in Illinois, tell pick up the phone and tell Senator Durbin to delete this. Protect 230. Phone numbers here: www.durbin.senate.gov
Microsoft just forced Copilot into Word on my personal laptop, and there's no way to turn it off...
I am viscerally enraged, and I don't even hate LLMs. I hate when people screw with my writing environment.
Maybe the only feature I really miss on Bluesky is the bookmark button.

The guy who is likely to decide has an explicitly anti-trans agenda, among other things.
But it gets way worse.

Largely, this is on me for not following more journalists/academics covering Korea on X. But, itโs also driven by Xโs โfor you feedโ deteriorating, and not surfacing more discussion/coverage.
Stanislaus comes in, and itโs awful for John Duarte (R), who loses a 1,349 vote batch by 77 votes. He now trails Adam Gray by 182. Fresno may narrow it by 60 or so, but Gray is extremely likely to win #CA13, putting Dems at 215 seats if it holds.
