Altering your brain chemistry when your brain is trying to kill you is a GOOD thing. Lots of drugs alter brain chemistry because that's the thing they're treating. Also, your brain benefiting from effective treatment isn't the same as dependency.

CBT has been helpful for me, it's just very limited in what it can do - I have had major depressive disorder for like 18 years, it's helpful when dealing with specific problems just not a general state of depression. Also placebos have plenty of medical benefit.
