When our family was fleeing Estonia and Latvia at the end of the war, the distance you could travel through Russian-controlled territory was measured in the amount of vodka you could bribe guards with. You could measure travel in miles-per-liter.

I want to ask some Russians “At this point, what is your definition of a bad day?”

People need to remember that “The shooting has stopped” and “Peace” are NOT necessarily the same thing.

The current Iranian regime made a grave error in basing its identity on the annihilation of Israel. If it cannot perform this core task, it cannot continue to exist, nor can it collaborate with neighbors in a dynamic world. I hope a moderate and pluralist regime can usher in a new future, soon.

There is nothing you could present to these guys that would convince them of anything. They deny genocide, wars, and their own lived experiences, never for lack of evidence, but for lack of willingness to face reality.

My Great Aunt remembered seeing family and friends on the trucks, being taken away. She never saw them again. No one ever did.

This is a demographic and economic body blow to Russia. The total male population of Russia is 66 million. Between a shrinking economy, terrible alcoholism rates, and the follow-on costs of care, the effects of 1.5-2% of the male population dead or disabled is staggering.
