I strongly support the NIH Diversity Supplement Program. Addressing the severe lack of diversity among biomedical researchers improves the quality of research. It's not a level playing field. This program helps restore equity through mentored training. Rescinding this program is a big mistake

The NIH 'woke' definition of diversity includes disability and disadvantage - homeless, foster system, Pell eligible, free-lunch program, food stamps, raised in rural area or one with shortage of health professionals..those of us without connections to encourage or support a path to science careers

The NIH doesn’t define diversity merely around race, either. I, for example, would qualify because I meet two criteria: received free and reduced lunch for at least two years as a child and am the first generation in my family to attend college.

I can’t think of anything more *inefficient* than dispatching someone who knows fuck-all about how research actually works to “trim the fat” from the integrated, collaborative network of scientists who are *already* operating on a shoestring budget.
