In vitro reconstitution of hippocampal cell assemblies Three-dimensional neuronal cultures, such as brain organoids, have proven effective for in vitro modeling of brain development and disease. However, it remains unclear whether these systems can intrin...

Are we born as a blank slate, or with a neural β€œoperating system”?
We show hippocampal neurons self-organize into memory-like networks in a dish.
We also introduce IncStim, a compact, all-optical sys. for closed-loop act. imaging/manipulation inside an incubator.

Scalable, affordable, submicron 3D imaging of multi-centimeter scale samples. - YouTube Hybrid Solid-Liquid Optics Enable Scalable, High-Resolution, Multi-Immersion Light-Sheet Microscopy. Authors: Cheng Gong, Pauline Affatato, Matt Fay, Sudha R...

Sharing new work from us+collaborators. We take a step toward making organ-scale, subcellular 3D imaging as scalable & affordable as next-gen sequencing, to eventually fuel next-gen of AI-foundational models of tissues, organs. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

A milestone worth reflecting on - 1000 citations for our cleared tissue light sheet paper - the COLM.
Gratifying that core ideas have stood the test of time and are broadly adopted:
Cuvette-based sample mounting;
Virtual slit effect with rolling shutter CMOS;
and Linear adaptive offset correction!

Love this!! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this before -- high-res light sheet microscopes designated for use by individual researchers in one lab!! Fantastic to see real-world impact emerging, starting with Bianca’s lab at JLG, Columbia!

3D Imaging Just Got Easier Columbia researchers have developed a powerful new microscope that could enable more scientists around the world to conduct cutting-edge biomedical research.

We’re proud to work with Dr. Tomer & his team at Columbia University to bring SLICE to life, a compact, affordable light-sheet microscope making 3D imaging more accessible worldwide.

We had to join the trend.

Introducing: Jack Glaser, Founder and President of MBF Bioscience β€”now an action figure. Complete with microscope, field journal, and trusty lab dog. πŸ§ πŸ•

I suppose both mind states are needed. Fresh mind to think out-of-box and an informed mind to make sure it is indeed out-of-box.

Quite an essay on the basis of cancer entitled "The End of the Genetic Paradigm of Cancer" @plosbiology.org arguing against the primacy of somatic mutations (traditional model) and cells, invoking gene regulatory networks and tissue

have ppl found any funders that support toolmaking? I want to keep making tools for people, but there is a seemingly irresistible force pushing us towards hypothesis-driven research. In my experience, funders don't want to hear about tech dev. Any insights? for both neuro & climate would be great tx
