This was always my main issue with Dodgers free agent discourse, where you'd get some people (not OP) praising the Dodgers for choosing to spend and ridiculing 29 other teams for "not spending" even when several other teams will make competitive-to-superior financial offers to said players.

Colorado has doled out notable contracts to free agents over the past several years, and they've failed because they were mostly poor baseball decisions, but also you need some of the league to just not be very skilled at this sort of thing to balance layers of competence throughout the sportt

This is such an underdiscussed aspect of all the people whining about payroll disparity. As unfortunate as it is for those fanbases, it's good to have a variety of competence throughout the sport. Teams that don't really know what they're doing are necessary players in baseball's theater.

I hope to God that we don't get that timeline

Being in high school during this whole era, I always thought Franco seemed to have solid instincts but poor range, and a strong arm. I don't miss those teams performance wise, but man are they nostalgic to look back at.
