Most likely to the Lib Dems, I would assume. Maybe a few to Labour, but not as many as Labour would like - in their pursuit of Reform voters I suspect they're leapfrogging the more liberal Tories altogether
15.10.2025 17:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The most shocking part of this is how it seems the entire country has essentially agreed the Tories are over. The dominant political party in this country for centuries, just written off with barely a whimper.
15.10.2025 16:10 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0To be clear:
LA County has declared a state of emergency BECAUSE OF the federal government.
The Feds, LA County is (correctly) saying, have CAUSED the emergency.
This is a striking political moment of internal collapse. Local govts feeling compelled to protect their ppl from β¦ their own govt.
This reminds me of the time I was cycling on a shared pavement, and a woman yelled at me to get off. I said "this is a cycle path" and she shrieked "I'M A LAWYER!"

Ooh! This is fascinating. I was noodling around this sequence on OEIS and discovered an even simpler way to write it. I don't yet know why it works, though! (I'm using sf(n) here for the superfactorial instead of n!!)
14.10.2025 16:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0(Sadly the !! notation is already reserved for the double factorial. This thing is called the superfactorial and doesn't have a fun exclamation-mark-based notation of its own)
14.10.2025 16:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is quite nice. If we define n!! to mean 1!Β·2!Β·3!Β·...Β·n!, then we can write the solution as
β((2n)!!Β·n!)
________
(n!!)Β²Β·β(2^n)
An alternative way to write it is
1!Β·3!Β·5!Β·...Β·(2n-1)! / (2!Β·3!Β·4!Β·...Β·(n-1)!)Β²Β·n!
But that's not a huge improvement
Yes, that's what I have - the product from 1 to n of (2n-1) C n
I wondered if you had a clever way to collapse that product into a more compact formula. There's a nice way to visualise it as the product of successive central values from the even-numbered rows of Pascal's triangle
Sad news everyone, Iβm officially pulling the plug on Brightsiders, my super fan podcast for the 2017 movie Bright. I still feel like there were many interesting topics left to discuss but after 7 years of weekly episodes Iβve learned that no one has ever listened to the show.
18.08.2024 00:14 β π 1717 π 222 π¬ 29 π 9Hmm... it's easy to come up with a long expression for this, but I can't see a nice way to simplify it. Is there a neat answer?
14.10.2025 13:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I had no idea! I used to have the audiobook of Tarka read by David Attenborough, listened to it many times as a kid. And yes, it was fucking brutal. Weird to learn there was a whole fascist ideology behind it
14.10.2025 13:19 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Arguably Asimov's The Feeling of Power does have a similar theme - as we rely more and more on computers, the ability to manage without them becomes rare and precious.

(I guess I'd start with "two adjacent right angles sum to 180 so the opposite sides are parallel")
In the 2010s, this country's elites were thrown onto social platforms with everyone else and could finally read what we all think about them and it caused them so much psychic damage that they decided to destroy both the internet and democracy to make sure nothing like it ever happened again.
