Itβs time to plant saffron crocus bulbs! πΈ This little autumn-blooming flower has one of the longest and richest histories in the world β prized for its deep golden-red threads, it was cultivated in ancient Greece, traded across the Mediterranean, and even mentioned in Homerβs epics. #fall #diy

In the top right, dark blue gas emanates from the blackness of space.

Exploring rocky saltwater coastlines, you'll likely find examples of salt weathering. When salt water seeps into pores/cracks, it may evaporate and deposit salt crystals within them. Growth and expansion of the crystals may weaken and break the rock apart to form cavities such as those shown here!

Do you know the difference between a shingle and a shake? π Historically, cedar shakes covered roofs across North America. Today, asphalt is common, but durable options like metal and recycled rubber offer sustainable alternatives! #histsci #sustainability #bluesky

A large, glowing full moon rising above the horizon at dusk. In the foreground, a lone buck with antlers stands in tall summer grass, with its silhouette against the moon. π± Did you know red mulberries have deep American roots? Historically planted across the US for shade, fruit, and beauty, they're perfect for July propagation! Just take cuttings, root them, and grow a piece of history in your backyard. #Mulberries #GardeningTips #SustainableLiving #GrowYourOwn π³

With everything going on, letβs remember that we have the power to share not only sustainable practices but an enduring and sustainable community with friends and neighbors. Fireflies love low-light environments, but streetlights / light pollution can disrupt their mating signals (their glow!). They lay eggs in moist soil om mid-summer, so even holding off on mowing for a few weeks can help.
30.06.2025 02:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Itβs absolutely true! Spraying has increased over the last few decades. But the good news is, fireflies (and pollinators, birds, etc.) can bounce back surprisingly fast if we just give them a chance.
Even small actions like leaving a patch of wildflowers or mowing less often makes a difference! πΏ
π± As June ends, fireflies glow brightly across the USA, historically symbolizing guidance, hope, and wonder.
Help protect these little backyard lights by keeping yards dark, limiting pesticide use on lawns, and let them sustain their magic for future generations! β¨
