After school today I hung out with my 13yo daughter, talked on the phone to my 18yo daughter AND my 21 year old daughter (both in college), AND chatted with my father on the phone as well.
It was a good evening. ❤️

Kid3 is listening to a Green Day CD on the boombox she received for her 13th birthday yesterday.

I was particularly in awe of the man from the WR apartments who saw what was happening, and asked what we needed.
‘Sign making supplies if you have them!’
‘I can go grab paper grocery bags and sharpies. But I’m observant and cannot actually make the signs, but I’ll bring what you need’ ❤️

Thank you to all the amazing neighbors who came out to help both observe the checkpoint and warn folks both north and south of this today.

Between this and last nights actions at Coolidge…it truly feels like we’re living in a police state.

MPD parked there cars in the intersection of 5th and Sheridan last night and turned on their rumble sirens at full volume just to get the kids to leave (while blocking their means of departure). It was full on menacing/threatening behavior.

(Relatedly, but ears hurt this morning)

Agree. We were shocked at the number of MPD whiteshirts there coordinating MPD and feds.

As things started to quiet down, I spent a significant amount of time biking around checking in with groups of kids walking the neighborhood making sure they had a way home.

A not insignificant number asked if they could hop on my bike with me (I still ride a longtail)

Hundreds of children re-learned to distrust law enforcement last night. The tactics used by MPD were extremely unnecessary last night - it was a case of MPD saying ‘go home! Get away from here!’ while simultaneously blocking the buses that kids needed to get home.

My heart aches to have witnessed this tonight.
