The problem is far bigger than Jeffrey Epstein | Rebecca Solnit Treating the scandal as an aberration misunderstands the global epidemic of violence against women

"One of the reasons the epidemic of violence against women is so unacknowledged is because cases like these are talked about individually, and often treated as though they are shocking aberrations rather than part of a pervasive pattern that operates at all levels of society."

Yay! Despite having such difficultly with this particular type of houseplant (I don’t know why, but I do), it’s blooming and the blossom is the sweetest little lavender flower!!! 🌱πŸͺ΄πŸŒΈ

Stepped away from the city and out into nature to be reminded of the vastness of all. The painted hills are beautiful, far more so than can be captured with a photo. The best part was sitting in a spot for nearly 20 minutes with my love and enjoying only the sounds and sights of nature πŸ’š

Protest, Power, and the Violence Debate "We are told we are experiencing peace, so long as everyone is cooperating."

@prisonculture.bsky.social and I have been encouraging people to read chapter six of our book, Let This Radicalize You, which deals with the question of "violence" in social movements. We have decided to share the chapter publicly, to offer some context and grounding for the current conversation.

How to stay hopeful in trying times - The Boston Globe Rebecca Solnit, the author of "Men Explain Things to Me," says despair is a luxury.

β€œDespair, in its own strange way, is a form of false confidence. It’s a sense that the future has already been decided and there’s nothing we can do about it. In fact, the future is something we make in the present.” @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social

If you believe that only the β€œfit” should survive and the rest are excusable deaths, that’s eugenics. Every life is important. Every disabled person is worthy of life. Disability is part of nature. If you live long enough, you will become disabled. We’re all vulnerable and all valuable.
