data-driven decision making is the rage in politics and democrats have the best & the brightest working on it.

and yet it's never felt more obvious that we've been missing the forest for the [binary-search?] trees.

there's an analog here to mcnamara, and I've been soul searching

SOME PERSONAL NEWS:

My biography of Harry Reid is available for pre-order and on sale Jan. 20! Exciting news for a project I started more than four years ago on the most powerful official in NV history and one of the more influential DC leaders ever.

Conventional wisdom in Test cricket was always β€œbat first if you win the toss and, if you have to think about it, still bat first”.

Ben Stokes has changed that. The England captain has turned bowling first into an attacking weapon.

The left better start figuring out how to weaponize today's decision rather than just (rightfully) criticizing it.

- Go back into Judge Kaczmaryk's court to dissolve all of his nationwide orders.

- Pass gun bans and insist any order applies only to plaintiffs.

A lot of takeaways from Zohran’s DSA-powered win but one of them is that liberals are not the problem. The liberals voted Zohran (or Brad and also ranked Zohran). It’s reactionary centrists that ran the disgraceful race-bating campaign.

THe WeaLtHY aRE GoiNG to LeaVE NYc

They’ve have spent the last 40 years turning NYC into their own personal ATM/VIP lounge. Now they’re gonna sell properties, shutter businesses, cancel memberships, and start over in Dorksburg, Idaho to avoid paying 6% instead of 4% in taxes?

It’s an empty threat

Rich dorks love to talk about leaving the city if taxes go up or They Allow Gender In School or whatever, and they never do. But I believe Zohran can change that. I believe that I will soon be able to rent a "classic six" on Park Avenue that once belonged to Debra Messing for $1700/mo.

The Ackman "I'm going to leave" shtick is SO funny, hope Zohran calls his bluff and just says, go.

there are like 1,000 brilliant Courant finance grads who are just WAITING to eat his lunch and don't want to live in FL.

every hedge fund guy is replaceable by a smarter hungrier grad

And we (small circle not representative sure) are SO much more for AOC/Zohran than Schumer/Cuomo because their reflexive centrism is so much worse than conviction and ability to communicate

Look at r/neoliberal after the shutdown "fight" or even now -- there's not a single person that wanted Cuomo

Exactly. There's a HUGE difference between liberal/center-left policy-wonk-ish Democrats (especially the younger generation) than the Establishment.

Most of us are disgusted by the Establishment for rallying around Cuomo rather than Zellnor or Lander, who actually _had_ a liberal policy vision

There’s a weird thing on this website and lots of left-wing subcultures, where people love to throw around β€œliberal” as an insult, but from what I can tell liberals voted overwhelmingly against Cuomo and are rallying behind Zohran now.

yeah that's fair -- he definitely would have a better shot at winning something that's not Senate. just worried something like NY State Senate would be deeply soul-crushing for a person who clearly wants to actually do stuff hahah

Also him running doesn't preclude others from doing so, he's not about to clear the field. And sure if AOC runs, she'll probably clear the field and deserve to.

He's the comptroller of the largest city in America, and by all accounts an effective one ....

I'm not sure he'd make an effective senator -- that's what his campaign would have to persuade us of. But I can't think of a reasonable "experience" bar that should preclude him.

25.06.2025 06:41 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

I guess I’m on team β€œnot Cuomo” but if the choice to lead America’s single greatest city is down to β€œinexperienced socialist” and β€œcorrupt sex-pest” maybe we need to have a hard conversation about the Democratic Party’s bench problem.

But perhaps what is most telling about the Democratic party’s embrace of Cuomo is not just their disregard for principle or policy, but their willingness to squander other talent. The mayoral race in New York City is crowded, but Cuomo’s two nearest contenders – Mamdani and Brad Lander, the city comptroller – have run remarkable campaigns. Lander has touted a considerable record of accomplishments for the city, underscoring his ability to deliver on promises to New Yorkers and his willingness to persist against formidable interests in long fights for things like bike lanes and affordable housing. Mamdani, meanwhile, has an infectious charisma, and has launched a campaign that has excited young voters, energized a small army of volunteers, and deployed innovative messaging tactics, achieving impressive numbers with relatively little money. You would think that the Democratic party would be more eager to make use of these men’s talents – the policy achievements of one, the preternatural campaign skills of the other. Instead, mainstream Democrats seem fearful, and almost hostile, towards these candidates. Then again, that’s much the way they feel about their voting base itself.

Another thing I can’t get over about the Democratic establishment’s backing of Andrew Cuomo in the New York mayoral race is how much hostility they’ve shown to Zohran Mamdani, an extremely gifted young campaigner whose energy and charisma the party sorely needs. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

States should begin the process to take over the roll of the Federal Gov't and people should support the state they reside in with the tax dollars normally sent to the IRS...obviously the Fed government doesn't give a damn about the people and they can't lock everyone up!

Straight white men we need to organize and be in the front lines.

This is it we have been called upon. No more letting the minorities and women do the fighting.

As being the only demographic with protection from the government we have to take point.

So white boys let’s fuck them up.

California’s Do-or-Die Legislative Session Democrats Don’t Have Another Year to Dilly-Dally on Housing.

This is realistically the last year California Democrats could pass pro-housing legislation in time to turn around what is shaping up to be a bruising Electoral College reapportionment in 2030. My latest:

On this date in 1886 was born Ernst ThΓ€lmann, German communist leader who amid the rise of Nazism would brook no alliance with Social Democrats, who he termed "social fascists." Arrested in 1933 and later murdered by actual fascists, he was sanguine:
"He who dies with the purest ideology wins."
