A driver hit a pedestrian last night in Columbus, severely injuring them. The article says the pedestrian was "was walking in the roadway" but fails to mention there's no sidewalk in that area

I saw this production this weekend. It was incredible and exactly what I needed in this moment. A story of a community coming together, people connecting, and the strength that comes from caring for one another.

Lots of folks getting radicalized by the snow across much of the country right now. What gets plowed, when it gets plowed, and how often it gets plowed reveals a lot about your city's priorities and who it values.

I dropped off postcards to all my neighbors that I hadn't met yet in my general block radius. I'm up to numbers from nine of the twenty-two units around me. Before the storm it was six. Progress!

Car culture routinely says to pedestrians to "make themselves seen", but then goes around doing irresponsible and reckless shit like this.

Exactly this. Cyclists etc already suggest to each other that hiviz, lights, helmets are a good idea in places with bad bike infrastructure. But when agencies with the power to do far more effective things emphasise hiviz, it signals clearly that they don't want to do those more effective things.

The reason why cyclists and pedestrians push back against these types of campaigns is not because we think visibility is bad (I wear hig-viz!), but because it's victim blaming that diverts attention from the real issues: dangerous drivers and poor infrastructure

I volunteer elsewhere and food/cooking are hard for me, but I might sign up for a meal because executive function and depression are a bitch.

A corollary to this: You should be kind to your neighbors because it's the right thing to do, and building community is vital at a time when the powers that be have no interest in helping us. But if that's not reason enough: sometimes your neighbors with a snowblower just take care of your sidewalk

Pay it forward, folks. Community building starts with the small stuff.

Yesterday, I saw folks thanking neighbors for their help in digging out their car. That it was nice to meet each other and that they'd have them over for a BBQ in the summer.

Today, I started digging out my car when a plow undid all my work. Some neighbors saw it happen and helped me finish my car, as well as an area further up the sidewalk.

Yesterday, my neighbor borrowed my snow shovel and shoveled his duplex and mine on the first (and hardest) pass.

That enabled me to shovel the rest of our block.

This snowstorm hit at the right time. I've seen a bunch of community connection happen and it brings me joy.

Surprisingly, the gutter bike lane has been plowed along with the main roadway, though both are covered in at least a quarter-inch of fresh and driven snow.

Went for a walk. Columbus roads are passable if you're desperate or on foot. Trains are having a much better time.
