There's been a revival of the idea that 'Pride is a protest', and my main takeaway from Brighton Pride is that it's kinda BECOMING one again. Banning political parties has paradoxically made it more political. And so has the relative lack of corporate floats (eg AmEx, who have withdrawn) this year.

Every now and then I think back to that mad Starmer speech in the aftermath of October 7 when he started she-ing and her-ing and herself-ing Israel.

It's not incorrect, but it's also archaic and weird, and very much a *choice*. I don't recall Starmer ever referring to any other countries as 'she'.
