Labour are a full throated rightwing party now.
Perhaps they'll walk back a bit towards the election but I think, if they have a strategy, it is to keep encouraging the Tories and Reform to the far right, making the choice at the election as stark as possible.
Terrifyingly dumb and dangerous.

the decline of the Tories was a fun thing to think of when it wasn't linked to "and here's the much worse party rising up, and the collapsing Tories are trying to match them" and also Labour wasn't in the doldrums at the same time

But didn't really die when it became the Boris Johnson supporter club? Despite his obvious duplicity, track record of failure and breaking his word and astonishing narcissistic behaviour they voted him in and worshipped him. After they ditched him it was a hollow shell, a walking corpse of an entity

I will shed no tears. They were warned about leaving the EPP, about calling the referendum, about what Johnson would do, and ultimately how copying Farage would be their end and they didn't listen. As a former 2010 Cameroon cons future member, why should I help save them?
05.10.2025 17:15 β π 20 π 4 π¬ 5 π 0
There absolutely is, except it is mostly held back by our insane media ecosystem. You just need to look at how consistently high left wing policies poll when you remove party names from the questions.
Bring in Leveson II and PR and we'd be in a very different country overnight.

It's really worrying because there is going to be a bloody great vacuum and if that isn't Jenrick-filled then it will be Farage-filled and then something-even-worse-filled when Farage's detractors decide he isn't right-wing enough. The mainstream parties must be assertive and coherent π¬
05.10.2025 17:08 β π 21 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0
In this metaphor, the Tories are somehow restraining Farage?
If so, Starmer is literally opening the floodgates

Like Jonn said in his newsletter, I'm enjoying the destruction of the Tory party at lot less than I imagined, because for all I hated them Reform scares me much more.
05.10.2025 17:00 β π 63 π 4 π¬ 3 π 1
I get your point. But may people do not want a resuscitated Tory party to resuscitate our two party politics, and the Tories have history, so it's not surprising many will celebrate. Of course, there is the Reform threat but should we go back to the old politics for that reason? Or hope for better?

Hard agree - there are very vivid examples of why the disappearance of a functioning centre right option in a system which props up the two largest parties every single day, when the news reports on the Trump administration.

It's increasingly clear that the president lives in a constructed bubble of unreality designed by aides who are manipulating him in order to take control of US policy. Seems like an important story - wish media would cover it.
