26.02.2026 02:06 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Now it's THESE BIG MACS AREN'T GOING TO EAT THEMSELVES, BOYS!!!!
25.02.2026 23:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I figured. The hockey pucks are the only ones.
For a while the tradition was to hold something in April on the South Lawn or a dining room with about 100 or so athletes, and the prez would give some anodyne remarks about inspiring the youth or what a cross-section of America they represented.
I have to believe that that had an impact on his life and how he turned it out.
You heard about some of these other guys like the Tkachuks who lived in a bubble and went to private schools and prep schools.
Have a friend of a friend who is in the NHL. He's relatively normal (aside from being a millionaire who has lived in the US since he was 18) and a nice guy but his parents insisted that he play other sports and that he stayed in the public school system even after getting drafted to the OHL.
25.02.2026 23:13 β π 0 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Canβt discount the way hockey has become so expensive. These arenβt farm boys learning the game on the frozen ponds of Ron MacLeanβs misty-eyed blatherings. Theyβre the sons of dentists, lawyers, accountants, financial planners, developers, and ex-hockey players, which informs how they grow up.

I stand corrected.
Sorry.
Meant 2026 American medalists to the Trump White House.

25.02.2026 23:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Canadian corporate profits are up 75% since 2019.
Wages are up less than 30%.
Wouldn't that be true of any elite athlete regardless of the sport? Why does hockey seem especially full of dunderheads?
25.02.2026 23:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That and the fact that itβs absurdly expensive for kids. Both equipment and ice time costs mean that youβre already excluding a large portion of the population.

25.02.2026 22:31 β π 55 π 7 π¬ 8 π 1Yep. If these were rank amateurs we were talking about, you could say, god, what the fuck were you thinking? But again, as you wrote, they're professionals, with professional management guiding them.
No one stepped up and said: This man befouls everything he touches.
And nothing bad could come of this.
"The act, which could soon incorporate special constables, already allows officers to direct people to leave a public space if they have 'reasonable grounds to believe' they're using drugs."
If only there were other, less police force-y ways to address public drug use.
Like say, and I'm just spitballing here, safe injection sites.
Is it just the predominate whiteness of the sport that makes it and the players such categorical dullards and bigoted?
Know the other professional leagues are inherently resistant to change and controversy but there are sparks of politics and recognition occasionally.
But... But... they were tight with the gals in the cafeteria at the village!
25.02.2026 22:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It isn't cowardice if any of the players who participated in the spectacle stepped up and copped to being MAGA, my country, my president, right or wrong, yaddie, yaddie.
It's just the one who took part and then whined about the politicization of sports.
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.β
MLK words, tattoo, worn by Auston Matthews
I mean,
it's almost as if the words have been rendered meaningless.
Please read this article to the end. Even before ICE got involved, this started because this *blind man who speaks no English and uses a curtain rod as a walking stick* got lost on a walk and some Karen called the police on him and they tasered and beat him bc he didnβt drop the rod. WTF

His 2010 run for mayor, he was by far the most entertaining of the major candidates. He and Rob Ford hated each other, nobody got under Ford's skin like Mammoliti during the campaign.
Then he went and turned Thumb.

You can just say βI donβt want to pay for ICE but I do want to pay for local police.β No need for the word games

An unprincipled clown who earned his political obscurity.
Still.
His death as much a head-scratcher as his life, I guess.
Only John Tory can clean up the mess John Tory created!

Sure, an agenda no one asked for but certainly one nobody can be surprised at.
