In a perpetual search for a beach house.
I watched the first ep but struggled with how dark it was - literally and subject matter. Feel like I need to persevere tho.
17.08.2025 21:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Am on the east coast now and there are tons of (lovely and busy) caravan parks that are doing a roaring trade.
17.08.2025 18:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yeah, thereβs def some growth. Weβd just need to massively increase land use by the sea.
17.08.2025 18:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yep, but itβs βtinyβ. And it doesnβt usually coincide with βhas plenty of money and wants big splash parks and full of entertainment and all-inclusive foodβ.
17.08.2025 18:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Oh totally. But thereβs, what, 7 Center Parcs? Some villages in a small Greek island will have that many - with 200+ rooms each. And buying the land on the beachfront for all that hotel would mean youβd have to charge a fortune. Land in rural Bedfordshire is much cheaper.
17.08.2025 18:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0For the cost of a weekend there you can get flights and a week all-inclusive in Greece.
17.08.2025 17:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Also eg this 5* hotel with a pool is Β£500+ a night next weekend:
17.08.2025 17:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0There are lots of campsites that are similar I guess. But the land needed is huge (even ignoring overcoming planning permission) and the economics of those places mean you need four v busy months to make them work and we cannot yet attract that many people.
17.08.2025 17:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0It was a stop en route to Scotland. But yes, I donβt think the brisk wind and grey skies were the issue tho.
17.08.2025 17:53 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0But we could no way afford to build and run the sort of all-inclusive 5*, water-park and activity-packed beachside hotels that are ten a penny in Spain / Turkey / Greece in any remotely accessible way. Try booking even a hotel with a pool on the English coast in August.
17.08.2025 17:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Went in late-January this year and it was thoroughly depressing. Tho decent fish and chips.
17.08.2025 17:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0As someone who until recently worked in travel PR, what I find especially interesting is his stuff is very βnonβ travel content. And yet inspires travel possibly more so than ones of lovely looking beaches and sweeping panoramas.

15.08.2025 10:04 β π 210 π 10 π¬ 4 π 0I am one of the 14 authors who chose to leave the Polari Prize, and I find myself frustrated and saddened at the way this entire story has been represented. 1/

11.08.2025 07:19 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A good excuse for my favourite 'Conservatism in the UK in 2025' image: first story is from 2022, second is from autumn of last year.

09.08.2025 16:29 β π 41 π 13 π¬ 10 π 7Early August and in jeans and a jumper and still a bit chilly. Ffs, the North.
09.08.2025 12:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yep, or at least a βurinalsβ and βcubiclesβ.
08.08.2025 13:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0There is so much goodwill for it. And the characters. And itβs like they wanted us to wish it over.
08.08.2025 13:29 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Isnβt it the worst. Have loved hate-watching every episode.
08.08.2025 10:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah, I guess the test is if a toilet door with a woman sign on makes it a single sex space?
08.08.2025 10:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Same. Not a lawyer so is just my lay person reading of the ruling but it seems pretty explicit that biologically female as well as female-presenting (ie not trans men) are primary in the case of single sex spaces.
08.08.2025 10:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thatβs the thing, if you βpresentβ male you should use male loos. And then we start with the women who have shaved heads or a strong jaw or are tall and suddenly people start asking for birth certificates.
08.08.2025 10:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yup. Also, quite a few in smaller places are just a sit down loo anyway so theyβll just take the signs off.
08.08.2025 08:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Well I *think* the Supreme Courtβs ruling is the law? And the guidance is to help organisations interpret it? But it sounds like those found not adhering could be liable for a sex discrimination claim. The government could change the law, tho.
08.08.2025 08:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0...on public health provision in the North-West of England. One of the cases was a not-spot of MMR vaccination in one of the most deprived communities. It turned out that local health services had closed down, so it was now a two-hour, Β£8, four-bus journey to the place where your kid could...
08.08.2025 08:41 β π 20 π 4 π¬ 1 π 2The challenge for many who want to do that tho is how they do it *and* comply with the law. No doubt a lot of people will be finding test cases to sue for discrimination and to so many venues with loos eg it will become untenable. Itβs such a mess of a ruling.
08.08.2025 08:33 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 5 π 0If your birth certificate is the route to accessing a loo anywhere in public good luck to us all finding them in our parentsβ lofts. Or at all. I didnβt have needing ID to use the loo for 2025 but here we seem to be.
