03.08.2025 17:23 โ ๐ 32 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0A project to mass-produce daylighted intersectionsโdesigned and implemented by SDOT crewsโacross the city would be really nice. Pick from a menu of interventions that vary by location: curb extensions, low (for visibility) planters, tactical paint/post, bike racks, community-sourced art, etc.
03.08.2025 17:36 โ ๐ 51 ๐ 5 ๐ฌ 4 ๐ 1I agree. Thatโs why I said a bollard. Currently thereโs no deterrent and a flex post will not deter that truck. We all know enforcement is non-existent. Not sure what the other option is.
03.08.2025 07:25 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I would say the fact that half of them are destroyed would say otherwise.
If you hit a car parked in the bike lane, youโre probably going to the hospital too.
Iโd be happy with a 1.5 ft hard bollard with flex posts on top. Cars and especially delivery vehicles do not care about a flex post
Seattle, 6th & Bell destroyed flex post
Seattle, 4th and Pine, flex post at opening of bike lane between two bike lanes to block cars
Example of bollard to block vehicle from bike/ped path
Example of Solid bollard blocking bi-directional bike/ped path
At the end openings. Seattle uses flex posts but there several examples like the first picture that show exactly why I didnโt say flex posts.
A nice solid bollard works great and can even be removable if need be
This is an auto-alignment point used by trolleybuses to switch from ESS (battery) to on-wire (OCS) operations.
The operator drives up to a predetermined alignment marking, hits a button, and both poles automatically extend to contact the wires.

02.08.2025 22:17 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This raises a great question.
โModerateโ is conventional for โnot progressive,โ but has been weaponized to make conservatives sound modest or mainstream when they are not.
Dow Constantine and Dan Strauss are moderate Dems. Nelson is as about conservative as a Dem can get.
This is my thought on sidewalk bulb outs at intersections. Seems like a small dedicated group could make slow but steady impact with a pretty minimal amount of funding. Rather than big pushes every couple years or waiting a decade for the next repaving

Weโve continued to invest in youth and families by expanding mental health services for young people and launching the and proposal to renew the Families, Education, Preschool, and Promise (FEPP) Levy, which would double access to quality, affordable childcare. Supporting young people and families is one of the most important investments we can make in Seattleโs future.
I like how Mayor Harrell wanted to provide examples of his work on affordable housing in his latest newsletter but just sort of gave up.
