I have an early morning, so thatโ€™s it for me. Incredible amount of movement this evening! We didnโ€™t quite hit the aurora high of last night, but no night staring at the sky is wasted.

Split Rock is an admittedly photogenic lighthouse, but this is just a fantastic shot. Love it! Thanks for sharing (and for all the work to get this angle!)

My list of "Politics" follows is wild right now. Approx. 70% are expressing various amounts of anger at the 8(+1) Senators, but the other 30% are railing at the 70% that are angry. Some of the 30% are saying this was always going to be the end result.

๐Ÿ’ฏI think about the "so broken" part of this a lot. I feel sorry for any possible future Democrat president *and* all of their cabinet-level positions. The destruction Vought, Musk, RFK and others have caused won't be fixed in a single term, and I fear some of it (science, health) will never be.

I didn't realize JDATE had actually been published in book form, or that there was a movie. I stumbled upon it in serialized form on the web 20+ years ago. I can't even imagine how someone would write a screenplay for what I remember of the serialized story.

Don't beat yourself up. I understand the feeling and I struggle with it too whenever I make a purchase that might benefit an oligarchy/monopoly/org that I'm opposed to. If an occasional treat helps you stay "in the game" for the long run, it's worth it.

I subscribed in January based upon the strength of your political reporting. Even with digital+print, it's a bargain. The in-depth reporting is almost impossible to find elsewhere in traditional media. The recent Rogues issue had 2 of the most fascinating stories I've ever read. Great work!

Thanks for helping fill in some of my educational gaps, and thanks especially for the references and sources at the beginning. More for my reading list.

I appreciate your posts and the information you share.

It's beyond glorious. Someone else posted wondering if it was possible to overdose on schadenfreude, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to find out.

It doesn't change how much long-term or permanent damage they've both already done, but these days you take pleasure where you can find it...

I started a digital+print Wired subscription a couple months ago, based upon the strength of their political reporting. At least the first year was shockingly cheap. Being a nerd and getting their tech reporting is just a happy bonus.

If I had written your post, the only difference would have been the use of "large amount" instead of "small amount" and I would have definitely used one of my favorite loan-words, schadenfreude.

I saw the *long* list of WB discs that were subject to the problem, but I haven't looked at my DVDs yet to see if I have any. I have far more blu-ray and now UHD than DVDs, so I'm hoping I'll escape without any casualties. Hopefully there's a good upgrade path, if so.

Right there with you. This timeline sucks. Despite paying attention to politics and even with all the dystopian movies and TV I've watched over the years, I was not mentally prepared for this shit.

Yeah, the developers have commented that it's the original (Apple) code, just ported and a few bug fixes, essentially running on an interpreter.

I also really love that you can play oldschool options or select a set of convenience options that make it a bit less punishing.

You have even more of them than I do, and you have both Apple // and Commodore versions! I'm impressed.

I've only played the first 3 and only finished the first 2. School kept me from getting too far into the later entries.

Have you tried the port of PGMO from @digitaleclipse.bsky.social?

8+ years ago I probably held views that I don't have today. I hope that I've become a better person as new information has been acquired. I know my views on certain things (like policing) have changed.

If his modern takes are still shit, then roast him, but I hope there's a path "back" for most.

I was born & raised in NW MN and I've never seen that item before today, so while I 100% believe you and the people in the comments confirming that it's real, it's not like it's *common*.

You can find me on the hill "Rullepolse and Lutefisk are both far worse."

I switched to kagi for search. I tried Brave and Duck but was disappointed with both. I hadn't heard of Kagi until Cory Doctorow tweeted about it. AFAIK it's Google's indexes without the enshitification and corporate surveillance. I use search enough that I'm OK paying for really good results.

Looks like I need to include you in both my "Politics" list and my "Retro*" list.

It's fun to find out someone that I follow for one reason has another completely unrelated shared interest.

@digitaleclipse.bsky.social is semi-active here and has been doing great work on retro ports and refreshes.

"not medically necessary" for that situation is just... That's the spark that would motivate a righteous protagonist in a movie that is just a two hour revenge spree. Not that I'm suggesting anything, just observing that you have a heroic amount of patience for absolute corporate BS...

You're not wrong, but I'm really afraid that if I did that in my home, people would start questioning not just my TV height rules (and those exist!), but a lot of other things about me too...

There's probably a better way, but I've created my own Lists for different areas of interest I have and then in addition to following someone I assign them to a List. I can just click on the list and see only my "Stargate" peeps, or my "Astrophotography" peeps, or whatever category.
