It Turns Out Waymos Are Being Controlled by Workers in the Philippines During a Congressional hearing, Waymo's chief safety officer, Mauricio Peña, was grilled over the company's reliance on overseas workers.

Once again, it turns out “fully autonomous” means “a guy in the Philippines.”

I think it's best for everyone to understand that the unified class project of billionaires right now is to do to white collar workers what globalization and neoliberalism did to blue collar workers.

there's nothing better than calling cell phones cuz you have no idea where your crews are?

American airlines boarded our entire flight, already delayed by a day, before figuring out they're missing a crew member and can't yet fly.

They blame these problems on weather, but much of it is self-inflicted by antiquated systems and poor mgt.

hahaha... I have two of his books going as I type.

None of it is a surprise.

On one road trip here, I once saw two cars on fire, one of which was flipped over. Guy was watching it burn while sitting in palm tree. Very Hiaasen-esque

I lol'd at CNN's headline the other day that was about their "new analysis" of the footage... c'mon!

I've spent like an hour out in the public here in Florida and have seen more anti-social behavior than I see in a month of my regular life.

This place is... different.

Another fun fact: I could screenshot this chat, so I had to photograph it. Anyone know if there is a technical reason for this?

No joke. I was "on hold" (on chat) for almost an hour waiting for a person (they told me it'd be 35 mins)... that gave me time to research other options and then book with AA.

S: What are your departure date?
me: 1/26/26
S: To clarify, is that December 6, 2026?
me: January -- 1 means January
S: Okay, so you're looking to fly on January 6, 2026. Is that correct?

I fly Spirit airlines for a specific leg. They're having tech problems today so I used their bot.

Maybe I should've re-stated the date, but c'mon... bad grammar, past dates, can't read dates, can't double-check.

Artificial non-intelligence.

I booked with AA. No wonder Spirit is bankrupt.

I follow both closely and they're definitely out of their songwriting prime. Neil recently release Big Crime... let's just say it's no Ohio.

To be fair, Neil Young actually wrote that song — and I bet he or Dylan could've made Minneapolis work. :)

Are articles like this simply click bait? Or are they written to soothe subscribers by normalizing ridiculousness? Or is this just a joke I'm not in on?

I keep hearing that journalism is in crisis, but how could it not be if this is what the WSJ is covering?

fun fact about that Rose Bowl in 1917:

UO didn't have money to send the team to Pasadena, so they sold the campus bookstore.

The company that ran it was so awful that in 1920 students, faculty, and staff raised money to buy it.

The Duck Store is the nonprofit co-op they established 105 years ago.
